Milled some Azek today for our exterior project. It's custom base to match the existing. A pvc base cap goes on top to finish it off.

Here's some of our recent shop work.

Something from the USA, going overseas for once.

I think my last post to you was about how nice it must be to be inside with that white stuff coming down outside. WTF happened?

The shaper is set up for siding and we didn't want to screw with the settings because we have more to do. We cut the slot with a hand held router w/ no D/C.

It is some messy stuff!

That dust builds up quick. And the fun part about Azek is that it is very staticy and sticks to everything. One of the wood distributors I use has 2 vacuum systems, one for wood and another for plastic. Gotta keep the chips seperated.

A bit more. Not all is soldered yet. Slow in the wind. Only a few feet in 2 hours.

We made 4 identical units. There's a rich Arab emir somewhere in Qatar, and he uses them to make ice cream.

Actually, if you could imagine the train of process pipe and industrial equipment that extracts natural gas out of the ground, this is one of the last links in that chain. It's an industrial vacuum system. The Pearl GTL project is one of the largest in the world. Believe it or not, those suckers were flown from Newark Airport straight to the Middle East.

Here's a link.

And if you want to talk about diversification, our shop is quoting piping work at the local Gummi Bear factory. Go figure.

You must have some good welders in your midst.

Yes we do, although we're slow at the moment. We had a lot of x-rays going on for this job. I'm surprised that equipment made it through customs. I thought it would trigger the damn radiation detectors.

I'll have to take some photos of our orbital welding work. That stuff is trick. Got a job at Pfizer coming up, but I doubt they'll let me in there with a camera. And I had some photos of a cell phone tower welding job up on top of a mountain in upstate New York, but I can't find them. Reminded me of Robert De Niro chasing that buck in the Deer Hunter. We went there in November of 05, and there was too much snow on the fire road. Unpassable. We had to come back in the spring.
