Pretty sure you're considered a Yankee in Texas. Anything North of the Red River.

Be prepared for low-ebb for a couple of years until you get established and make contacts. You could go to work for somebody else {cough} or you could run an add in the local newspaper and take the dog chit jobs until you get a network built up. If you're nitche it's better but this business IDK. My BIL moved to Kansas City for a while some years ago and started a collateral recovery business and made 90k his first year but that's a different animal.

If your Native to North Carolina, your still a southern boy, just not from Texas. The battle uphill will be less painful. Dallas, proper is a pretty decent. Pretty welcoming overall though.

But Yes you will have to rebuild the network. Don't realize how important that is, untiul it's not there.

Just be glad you won't be talking like this dude when you hit the ground

Everytime I drive thru Dallas I remember why I left.

Lots of work, lots of people, lots of traffic.

I like the video. I hear there lots of transplants in DFW. Raleigh is full of them, lots of tech. I just use Google to get my leads here. When I first started I didn't have a network, I had my website launched, ran Adwords and started working in a few weeks. Been busy ever since. I find that transplants will use Google vs a referral because they don't have much of a network either.

Re: Possible Move Out Of State, Starting Over Anybody In Texas Please Respond

I'm in the same boat as I posted here a while back. We're moving from Jersey to Nashville. I have a nice little network of subs and strictly word of mouth business and I am never not booked. Going to be a little daunting.

Thinking about going the home inspector route maybe. Set your own hours and schedule and work when you want and maybe give the knees and shoulders a rest.

I don't have any advice except good luck.

Unless you're looking to established contacts on CT, you're probably asking a question you already know the answer to...

How did you start up before?

All I know is that if you want to play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band.

Trust me, you aren't moving to Dallas, you're moving to the burbs or the country. The wife better be sure she'll be OK with the commute...

Traffic sux, there are some awesome suppliers, and, as my lawyer buddy said when I told him I was moving to Dallas "Watch out, there are a lot of snakes up there."

Oh, yeah, it gets hotter than heck....

Not looking for contacts, But that wouldn't hurt. I was just looking for some insight. For example if someone asked me for some insight about Raleigh, I would mention a few things. Like prices are pretty competitive here. Also tradesman are not very good in this part of the country, so if you plan on subbing out work good luck. I do most of the work on my remodels 1 because its hard to find good people and 2 margins are tight round here. Yes I have a plumber, electrician and a hvac guy, Not other subs. Something along those lines would be helpful.

Yes I would not be moving to Dallas proper, but the burbs definitely not the country. I find the weather in DFW more bearable than NC. I spent July 4th week in Grapevine, wasn't that bad. And yes i was outside, even spend the 3rd at Addison circle to watch the fireworks, it was 103. I worked in NYC for 12 years im not scared of traffic, my commute was 4-5 hours each day.

Sounds a lot like NC, don’t see many Americans in this business anymore. I worked for a guy here that thought he knew how to do tile. He would waterproof wonder board by put silicone in the corners, seams and nail heads. The. He would lick his finger and smooth it out😂. I remember the first shower we did, the tile wouldn’t stick to the curb he blamed the thinset🤣

Do you guys see guys working in the middle of the night? On new construction and houses going on the market, they work all night long here. My new house, they were drying the foundation with fans at 11pm. Plumbing, painting every Single trade. Every time I see these guys it drives me nuts.
