Please Help

Hey guys! I'm a new booty Electrical contractor in San Diego Ca and I just had some questions on a new job that I just got. My first Panel upgrade. I've never done the paper work on a Service upgrade and I was wondering how it goes. I meet with the GC tomorrow. He already likes my price range but after I write up the invoice and get the deposit do I go to the city to pull the permit , buy the materials and just get started. Please help a brother out ...tx

As a New Booty Electrical Contractor did you get Booty Certification yet in your state? You need one before you do a panel upgrades

See, this is why I say a license does not mean you know what you are doing!
Congrats on your new license, now you have to get the "real world" experience.

"I meet with the GC tomorrow. He already likes my price range but after I write up the invoice and get the deposit do I go to the city to pull the permit , buy the materials and just get started."

Did you give a bid or proposal, did you get a scope of work? Did you account for everything or just flash a number out there? Price "range" is not too Specific.
You need a Contract before you do anything with this job, then you get your deposit, etc, etc.

Good luck to you, I am sure you will pull through this and get the hang of it. Just don't be a one-poster here, hang around and getto know everyone, there is a wealth of knowledge once you learn how to ask the questions.

Re: Please Help

Now that you got your NEW BOOTY Certification and Contractors License, now all you have to do, is use the space between the ears to come up with the price for the job.

But since you asked, as a GC I wouldn't pay more then $1000 to rewire 800SF house, and I would only pay $500 for a panel upgrade

Wanna come to Napa? Those prices you'll get plenty of work.

I'm thinking after you finish the first job you should sit and review everyhting and adjust your price accordingly.

The smartest advice I can give you is to keep a composition book and track all time spend on the project, including the initial contact, meetings, contracts, permit pulls, material pick up, project set up and break down (Daily), how long you spend each day and than break that down into tasks, i.e. wire the kitchen, the bath, etc, etc.

Since your still wet behind the ears you are going to need a number of these projects behind you before you can accurately figure out 90% of it, the last 10%, well, all of us are still trying to fathom that out ourselves.

Only Joe Bag 'O Donuts electric could do it for those prices. A 100 amps panel-only upgrade was $500 in 1998. The rewire for one-thousand are you kidding me?

Re: Please Help

You came in here joking, I was joking with you You are professional licensed contractor, you shouldn't look for a price to get a foot in the door. You should know the prices and only you can know what you should charge. The numbers I posted are meaningless. Don't look for prices in here, sit down make a list of what you need, price it out...add your overhead and figure out the profit and submit a proposal. Forget it bout it what anyone is charging here, do your own leg-work. Good luck.

Magnettica we're practically neighbors, I'm a GC in Central Jersey, I know what we get to upgrade service or to rewire a house, and we both know every job is different and every state got different rates, etc. For a professional trade to come in here and ask what I should charge is a joke

EZ GREG EZ killer!!
I simply wanted professional Electrical contractors' opinions on whether I came in too low or too high. I was comfortable with the price and understanding my abilities to pull it off and still get paid. Isn't that what this forums for. To help each other out. My bad for asking
This is my first bid as a licensed GC. Gimme some time and Imma b swingin for the fence with the big boys like YOURSELF .

Tx for the honesty
