Piece Work?

What does that mean? I've heard of that in sewing. But in Plumbing?

What's that?

I was perusing the want ads today in the local paper, ...........

The whole industry here where we are has gone in the tank. Badly.

And we're right there in the tank.

In the want ads, under "trades", was the only ad they had for plumbers "piece work".

Is it that bad now, that the trade has sunk to this level?

Re: Piece Work?

They will pay you per piece so lets say X amount per plumbing point , or for appliance installs.

Re: Piece Work?

Depends on how you look at it and how you want to go about living. Piece work is for producers and if you're good at it, then you get paid well.

If you can't produce, then you don't make money anyway, one way or another.

A contract is a form of piece work. You get paid per job. So I'd say technically, 50-75% of the people here are piece workers in one form or another.
