The phone rang today.

TWICE....!!

I had two ladies call me today. One looking for a Mahogany vanity and an office remake. And the other was looking for a 101" Bamboo vanity. Both referrals. The Mahogany/Office job sounds promising, the bamboo vanity sounds like a tire kicker. Gonna be pricey. Bamboo ply goes for $240/sheet. It'll take 4 sheets plus drawers. Wants it priced installed or GC pickup.

Anybody else finding the phone ringing? Strange both happened the same day.

Congrats Leo

My phone rang today as well. An architect I worked with last year on a commercial job called and said he had two sets of plans for projects that he had in the works and needs some numbers from a GC.

This is the one archy I've worked with in the past five years
or so that was more palatable than most. And the commercial job we did last year was almost half a mil, so I know he does get decent sized projects. That job went off pretty well, the normal foul-ups, but I would take this archy over most.

I'm calling him tomorrow. Hoping for the best.
Good luck with yours Leo.

Ringing for the last couple of weeks straight. I looked at 3 jobs today and signed two.

I finished up 246' of 5' tall shadowbox fence and 260' of 6' stockade last week.

I have next week booked and a couple towards the end of the month.

I still have some time off but I am not hurtin right now. My website/ Yahoo / Google listings have been my main customer sources as of late.

I love that feeling!!!

I met with a customer last week that got some state money to rehab his commercial building. 164k in work. I'm in my 3rd year of this, and last year I probably did 120k in work.

Landing this job and I just increased my sales for the year with one job.

I am extremely busy. All new construction siding. Usually have a couple weeks downtime in the winter. This winter i havent laid anybody off and we have worked straight through. Construction shcedule is out till the second week of March, but realistically with the weather it will be the end of March before they get them all built. Hang in there, it will get better.

Outstanding!
They should make this thread a sticky so that when anyone gets work, it gets posted. Bring up the morale around here, and prove that it might not be so bad after all, and while business may be down, it's not out.

I am my own worst enemy sometimes when it comes to attitude.
I can take a pay cut and survive, I just need to know it's a reduction, not an evaporation of pay. Been getting nervous of late that it was the latter.

I think the guys that still get that "gitty" feeling when they get a lead, will never hurt too bad for work.

I know when I get in the office and have leads on the machine, I'm like a 12 year old that just found a penthouse in the garbage. I can't wait to check it out.

Leo- wish you were closer, I cant even get my mill work/ cabinet guy to get me prices back on anything for like 9 months. He is not even busy, just stupid I guess. I finally get a drawing and price back for a big custom vanity with linen towers and granite, and a Oak office set-up for my mechanic one week ago. Now my friend (cabinet guy) is yelling at me because I haven't given the prices to the people yet. Sorry I told him, some people have to work.

sorry for the rant Leo.

If you build it they will come!!

Okay, that's seven guys with business, or at least leads, coming in.
Let's see if anyone else posts up with new biz they just got or are in the process of getting.

I think we need a thread like this right now. I'm not usually the cheerleader type, but damn, this doldrum crap has got to cease.

I agree, it is a nice change from all the doom and gloom of late.

I was wondering if was going to be flipping burgers at MacDoodies this spring for a little while.

I recently got 2 calls (making up the first 2 leads from my website!)one from a property management outfit wanting to put me on their vendor list for properties in the area and the other from the gas company wanting some demo and reno work done on some buildings on their right of way.

Another lady whose bathroom is literally sinking into the ground (I bet 6" across 8-10 feet) and whose hot water heater has already fallen through the floor to dirt. ( I hope I get this one, sooo much fun)

Another guy wanting some "concrete work", we'll see what that is about.

And a call today from a GC I work with sometimes about a siding job on a new house.

Up here in northern maine its been a bit slow, as it always is in the winter. What I do is a lot of shoveling roofs in the winter. at 100 to 150 for a normal residential roof, that takes 2 guys about an hour, its not too bad. Got 2 guys shoveling booked up for 2 1/2 weeks ahead. only have 1 working on small remodeling projects with me. Got to do what you got to do in the winter up here. I have to laugh though. last week My company made over 2k removing snow from roofs and only about 700 in carpentry. maybe its time for a career change? lol

I got a call yesterday from a regular client for replacement windows in their beach house, have to look at a job expanding a door opening on thursday, and have another client that wants (3) windows replaced. Other than that its been work on moms house for the last month. Shes waited a while for new windows and siding, and since we're slow she wants to keep going with (2) bathrooms and redo the basement. I give mom a good break, but I am surviving and keeping my guy (rewrew87) in paychecks.

Did a "First" last week - I actually put an ad in Craig's list (first time)for Ice dam removal and snow raking. (I had our outdoor siding/window/roofing crew available)
- The phone rang off the hook. I picked up a roofing estimate and some possible interior repair work out of it.

Been extremely busy the past several weeks (fortunately).

Now: Working on one addition bid for a March start. We are top in the running (Working with the Designer).
and also meeting on another addition today, and a few remodels.

As always. we'll see how/if....it all pans out....

Fingers constantly crossed...

Granted - My area of the country is not as bad off for growth as the rest. We've been fortunate.

I'm trying to raise the bar when meeting with Clients. I put together a huge portfolio of before and after photos...Full page photos.
That is a Big, Big, hit with Clients. Makes a real impression. Shows what we can deliver, rather than just promises.

I've got a bid out on finishing a basement and expanding a 2nd story dormer to turn a 1/2 bath into a full that I'm hopeful on. I bid it normally price wise. After reading thoughts around here I think that's the way to go.

Lined up 2 full interior repaints last week, nice houses. Also have a couple insurance resto's going on and 30+ cabinet doors for repaint. Still averaging a couple calls a day from painters looking for work. I could use one more guy right now, but really dont want to go thru the weeding out process because I get real tired of all the BS'rs who say their professionals...you know what I mean.

Right now I'm booked out about 7-9 weeks, hope it stays like this but I'm prepared to weather out any potential storms. I honestly believe there are parts of the US that arent being hit as hard as others. The clients I've cultivated over the years have the incomes. I guess we'll just see how the year plays out.

I hope those of you who are experiencing lean times catch a few good breaks and are able to pull thru all this. Reading the posters here, I cant help but think your all professionals who truly care about your trades. Good luck to all!

Booked through the whole year already. Of course, my work takes quite a while to complete. I have the answering machine clearly state to maybe look elsewhere but they still leave messages about work. Guess that says something about the work you do.

Damn, I charge $100 for a single wide trailer with no additions

$250-300 for a house.

This is the first year of my life that I actually WANT snow.
