People On The Site During The Workday.
don't get mad at me for posting this, but i am rarely home during the day and today i got done earlier and i have been working on estimates this afternoon. i am simply amazed at the number of people on this site in the middle of the day. are a lot of you guys working in an office during the day with employees out there doing the construction work or whatever work you do? the only time i normally come on here is very early inthe morning or at night after the kid is in bed.
not sure how so many hundreds of guys can be viewing posts, either a lot of us are slow, or you all have other guys doing the work and you are home more. not sure which. not trying to say it's a bad thing. just saying that i wouldn't be in business long if i could stay on here and read threads in the middle of the day. i'm a small operation with one full time employee, look to expand someday but i like being small for now. if work slows down and you have 10 employees, that's a big nut to crack each week for expenses. bigger doesn't always mean you make more money for yourself. things have slowed down just a bit here with the cold weather in NJ the past month or so. i am busy but not as busy as past winters. hopefully warm weather gets people wanting to do bigger projects. |

My computer at the office is on 24/7 for remote access. Generally I leave my e-mail accounts and this site open, so in a way I am always on.

I'm either running appointments or in my office. We have 5 sales reps running so I only run 1 or 2 appointments per day myself. |

Some days I'll pop in on the site for a few minutes for a "mental health break".

Re: People On The Site During The Workday.
This time of year I keep my full timers busy doing painting which i don't enjoy doing. I spend my winter doing paper work, refining marketing campaigns, analyzing numbers and fooling with web design. As much as I hate it about myself, I am not focused enough to stay on paper work for longer than a couple of hours at a time. So I click over and check out the BBS's. I think I need an 'anonymous' support group.

Yea, I get lazy sometimes and would rather be on the couch with my computer than outside in the rain pounding nails. Tough on the bank acount, but nice for the mind.

Re: People On The Site During The Workday.
I'm really not a contractor, but a spy sent over by Home Owners Activists groups to see what schemes you guys are all up to.
Oh boy, do I have your number now. You just wait until I get back to my loyal following and we will shake up all of you contractors. How dare you all think that you can manipulate us poor uneducated home owners by saying you are providing quality work and charging more for additional work we wanted to have included!!! I knew the cat would be let out of the bag sooner or later. Whew! I'm glad I got that off my chest! The aforementioned dialogue is somewhat true, the names have been changed to protect the innocent(guilty). Actually, this is quite similar to what occured on another BB. A homeowner against builders spiked and flamed the contractors on that board to the point of receiving retaliatory absurd childish remarks posted back at her to blast her and her organizations cause. Then she conivingly cut and pasted just the statements she saw fit to serve her purpose,(at first), to enflame the home owner bulletin board she operates. She eventually came around to see that the contractors were not all sh*t-heads and actually posted some of the wiser more symphathetic posts on her site as well. Lesson to be learned for some people. Do not ever write something that you would not be proud of if someone else outside of our circle were to read too. Ed the Roofer (Maybe) |

I have internet on my phone so I stop in and poke around. I also have random days off as I see fit.

Re: People On The Site During The Workday.yeah, i hear ya on that one, but it's not winter everywhere, lmao. like i said, i'm not out to bust on anyone or say it's a bad thing, just curious how some guys do it. i dont' shut down much in the winter, we might work a little slower, or start a little later but not much weather stops us from doing a job if it has to be done. snow will delay us a day or so until we get the site cleared if it happens to be opened up. |

Re: People On The Site During The Workday.
She was led to that board by StuccoMan and then some guys made the mistake of posting on her board with links to opposing viewpoint posts, but used the hyperlink which directed them there.
He cause is not bad, but she should know who her allies are or could be before pointing an accusatory finger at them as a whole. The thread I starded over there on the other contractors board should be up to 200 posts by this evening, and its only been there for 1 1/2 weeks. The thread I started on her board is almost up to 50 posts which triples any other thread they have had since their existence. Dam, I know how to stir up the pot! So, if anyone wanders over to other sites, cut and paste remarks instead of using a direct link, unless you want the discussions to go nowhere. Ed |

Re: People On The Site During The Workday.
The mod at the other board shut down a thread called "why we don't answer DIY'ers" but didn't have the backbone to edit the initial flames from the discussion she got involved in.
Her point, at least from her side of the fence, is a valid one which merits discussion, but she should have just lurked instead of throwing darts. Ed |
