Parking Ticket For Comercial Vehicles In Los Angeles

I use a van to perform my work and park the vehicle at curb in front of my house, doing this for about 12 years.
Just this morning I found a ticket on my windshield (MC 80.69.2) : commercial vehicle parked in a residencial area.
By doing some reserch I found out that the L A M C , if enforced will put thousands of us in the same violation , commercial vehicles cant park for more tham 3 Hrs. in a residencial Street.
Be carefull

Huh? Little too much wine with your dinner?

For me, we're talking about a regular size van here, no box truck or even a trailer. Read the ordinance. "Any vehicle with commercial license plates and permanent exterior graphics." I think that's just about everyone here......

Ya thats what I say They have the same ordinance here , but like you build, they don't inforce it. Now if I had a tractor trailer parked on my street I could see getting a ticket, but I really don't see a problem with parking a work vehicle at your house. Heck my work truck looks nicer than some of the cars around! Plus its nice to have your truck and tools close to you for security reasons.

I live in a very close neighborhood, as in the proximity of the houses, so most don't even have driveways. It's almost all on-street parking. I'm fortunate enough to have a driveway with a decent size yard to pull in and turn around, and park my van and the wife's too.

had that problem in NJ. I parked the thing in my front yard. They tried to write a ticket and I asked them where the blazes can I park then? They stoped enforcing it in Neptune City.

Seems like the solution is to take advantage of section (B) in that law and get magnetic signs made. Take the signage off when you park.

That is one way to do it, I just quoted what a neighbors comment was about not respecting your neighbors rights.

What happens around here is if a comercial truck with sinage is parked and the police don't ticket it, and the owner does not respect the law, all four tires can go flat. I don't need the problems so I have to pay for a garage in the next town, I can assure you I don't like it but unlesss i live in the woods, no choice, i can see the other side prople work had to buy a nice home in a residential area, then someone starts making the neighborhood look like billboard.

In my neck of the woods you can't even park your work truck in you driveway (in a residential zone). So that's what I got, magnetic signs.
On a related topic does anyone have a Box truck that's over 10,000lbs.? Apparentley, if it is, you have to have a D.O.T. inspection along with your State inspection. And you Have to have a "Health Certificate". And yes, I found out the hard way.

Here is the same way. Don't park a trailer in the street ever and disconnect or they will tow it off.

You can park one commercial vehicle in the driveway and one none commercial trailer, but not a RV travel trailer.

You cannot park an RV or an un-registered vehicle in the driveway. It must be garaged or behind a 6 foot stone or wood fence. Some neighborhood, don't even allow registered and inspected classic & antique vehicles that are not concealed.

It is a bummer. That's why we have magnetic signs. We're not in Los Angeles city but we are in Los Angeles County and our neighborhood has similar ordinances. I cringe whenever someone says magnetic signs look unprofessional because we don't really have a choice. But to play devil's advocate (don't throw anything at me) I can see why folks wouldn't want commercial vehicles parked in a residential neighborhood - it really doesn't look very nice.

sounds like a neighbor complained. So get yourself a 25 year old war wagon. Register it and bottle bomb the entire vehicle with graffiti. Then park it on your street.

In Pennsylvania, if an out of State vehicle is over 10000 pounds, the above is required. If you are in-state, it goes up to 17,500 pounds.

The real answer is to live where you can comply with the law. Maybe that requires living away from densely populated areas, buying a house with a side yard or garage you can park in.

Re: Parking Ticket For Comercial Vehicles In Los Angeles

I just finished moving from Naples, FL to Los Angeles, CA. I rented a big Penske Box truck and made the trip in three days. After moving most of my stuff in on Friday I decided to park and finish the hard work on Monday. I parked in an LA County area. I checked on the truck on Monday and found two tickets.

LA is normally all about signs when it coms to parking. I parked where I did because I was told that you could park there all week. How is the average person picking up a moving van in another state supposed to know about this rule?

I'm going to fight the tickets. I don't expect to win but maybe I'll feel better. What would make me feel better is getting $360 back from LA on a ticket I fought and won last year. I got the "you won" letter in the mail promising a check to follow in a few weeks. I thought "wow, I didn't get screwed this time". A year later, and no check.

End of rant. Good luck to all the contractors out there trying to make a living in LA.

Take the ticket to city hall and have them read this part of the ord.

(3) hours on any other public street, except that any vehicle regulated herein may park notwithstanding such prohibition or in excess of such time limitation:
(1) While loading or unloading property, and additional time is necessary to complete such work; or
(2) When such vehicle is parked in connection with, and in aid of, the performance of a service to or on a property in the block in which such vehicle is parked, and additional time is necessary and reasonable to complete such service.

Tell them you needed more time to load yourself in!

I have done several remodels that were undertaken to help provide off street parking. Many muni's are jumpping on the code enforcement bandwagon. Parking and security of vehicles/RV's is big deal to alot of people.
