Oven Won't Heat Up

didn't know where to put this thread but.. I have oven that doesn't heat up anymore... burners on top (gas) work great.... but when i go to turn on the oven..nothing... no noise.. no heat.. any ideas??? its a magic chef. The inside of the oven at the top has some sort of gas line going to a large metal pan that i can unscrew... Do ovens have thermal couplers???

Re: Oven Won't Heat Up

More than likely it is the igniter. If the igniter is shot the gas valve will not open. The igniter has to pull a certain amount of amps when it is working correctly to open the gas valve which will fire the burner. The igniter has to be glowing a bright orange/yellow, if it is glowing a dull red/orange replace the igniter.

Good advice.

Jeff in 'appliances' can walk you through this. I think it is in diy forum. He's the man when it comes to appliances. If it was electric, I might could help. I just never fooled with gas appliances much at all. Jeff prop has diagrams you can follow if you need them.

I agree it sounds like the igniter. I had a similar problem. It was fairly easy to replace.

I used this web site http://www.repairclinic.com/ when I was troubleshooting the problem.

Check him out. 'Repair Clinic' is also a pretty good site for info, but Jeff is hard to beat for one on one help. Good info on what problems different brand/age appliances are prone to have.

Re: Oven Won't Heat Up

Had the same problem i have wall oven. There was a like little silver box that needed to be replaced. I did it my self it wasn't that big of a deal. It was a couple of years ago. I just went back to the appliance center where i bought it to like the parts dept. Guy said its so and so this is what you need. I replaced it works fine. My problem was this. It would engage but it would take 5 minutes to engage if not longer. My oven is Nat. Gas. Oh it was a little silver box that plugged in around the ignitor.
