Out Of State Gc's

Bidding with out of state GC

I just had a fun experience.
First, The guy calls me to explained he is having a hard time finding contractors to bid on his project ( Demo- framing- blocking- sheetrock & tape - ceiling)
BUT he needs the bid in 2 days!
So I bite... working with my subs we hurry and put together a good (not cheep) bid.

On the bid sheet it requires lic, insurance,Wc, no big deal. Also what I pay for materials, labor, profit, insurance forms..ect.

I send in the bid and ask for a call back to let me know how soon the job starts. I get a call the next day BUT not from the GC, from the guy who let me in the building to bid the job, he tell me that he is to hand over the keys to the GC and his crews are coming in from out of state to do it all.

Good news is the guy who let me into the site, manages the property, and has a lot of work for me.

I hate bidding for an out of state GC -but if I didn't bid on it I would not have meet the property manger. Good karma!

alot of these out of state GCs are trolling craigslist looking for "subs" to bid on their jobs right away. mostly just bs guys tryin to get guy's info. then you get bombarded with all kinds of solicitations.

I had the same thing happen to me earlier this month. Guy called me out of the blue and wanted a bid on a job that needed to be done in 2 days. He called 4 days before. Told him I was booked for the week, but could work Sat. and Sun. Didn't get that one.

Bid on a big commercial job in Middletown,Ct also... didn't get that one either, but the GC that landed the job is from NC. He called me looking for installers, but I've been out of town since since last week, so only thing left is carpet, so he says he'll give that part of the job to me. We'll see.
