OSB Prices

what in the world is going on-last week OSB at the box store was $7.88, this week it's $13.88 and going up more the commercial counter guy indicated. Does anyone know if dimensional and plywood is heading up in a similar spiral?

Get a hold of everything you can now. I have a good relationship with the owner of my local lumberyard and he forewarned me.They are forecasting up to $20/sheet prices.

We bought about 4 bunks a week and a half ago in anticipation of this to get us through our next couple projects.

Our local lumber yard headed into Fort Wayne last week and hit all 3 lows stores and all 3 menards trying to take all they could get. They wouldn't sell them very much and that was last week.

I don't know if this is accurate or not but I heard that the manufactures just stockpiled the warehouses and quit making osb. It is basically a monopoly using its power to gouge prices. They know we need it. And the bottom line is you have to pay for it because you can't build without it.

It will go down again. I'm just glad we stockpiled what we did or we would be getting killed on the jobs we bid.

Re: OSB Prices

I noticed the same thing here in PA. All lumber seems to have gone up. I was told that trim is going to go up exponentially because of the earthquakes in Chile and that is where most of it is from.

Stumpage prices have been going up
for months now.
Prices will rise even if the demand
doesn't go up much.

It went up 4 dollars here. I called and got prices on zip panels and they were 14.88, looks like I will be ordering 100 plus sheets tomorrow before it goes up.

I first heard about the price climb about a month ago from my uncle who said it was up to 16 a sheet in California

Re: OSB Prices

Great. I'm too small to be stockpiling OSB, so project-wise, whatever it is, it is. But I do have to roof my own house. 3 layer tear-off and OSB overlay due to spaced 3/4 board sheathing. I'd better get on that.

I'd wait on it. Prices will come back down. It may just take a while for supply and demand to balance out again.

Correct. They'll be some spikes until some mills open up.

Osb here today $11.47 I think that's up $5 from a month ago.

Re: OSB Prices

My shingle supplier actually had OSB cheaper than Home Cheapo. Last month my supplier $7.50 a sheet, Home Cheapo $5.25. This month my supplier $7.50 (probably stay there till they run out and re-order), Home Cheapo $9.
