Question

Old Screen Names?

I don't know how interesting this topic will be but I was personally curious myself...

I read through alot of old threads and I see soo many names of people who post one or two times and you never see them again. I was wondering does anyone go through and do a general clean up of screen names with no activity after a certain period?

Re: Old Screen Names?

That's kinda counter-productive, when you're hunting advertisers.

Why purge them? Every once in a blue moon, someone who hasn't posted for a year will jump in and ask a question or answer a question. People get busy, and don't have time for forums, then things slow down and they're back. No sweat.

11,900 looks more impressive than 500 to 1,000.

Ed

How many registered members are active posters?

I'm not sure if your talking about users or posts, but we don't remove either unless there is a problem with the post/user. One of the great things about this site is it becomes a wealth of information. You can research all sorts of topics and find answers to all sorts of questions. If we removed old posts we would loose all of that.

We don't remove users unless they have become a problem, something that is VERY rare. I have seen people register two years ago, never post, and then start posting out of the blue.

BTW, the number of registered users we have really has no benefit when looking for advertisers. Advertisers look at the number of unique visits you get a day/month and the number of page impressions you get. We currently get over 1,000,000 pageviews a month on this site.

I don't know how many are active posters because that's not a stat I can pull from my database but I know we have an average of 600-700 registered users (signed in) visit the site each day. We also get about 5,000+ unique visitors a day.

Isn't there a way to sort members according to date last visited? Its in the member profiles maybe you can search anyone who has logged on in the last month. I might be thinking of another message board software though

Guilty as charged. I'm like a bad weed... I go away and I come back.

.... whether you want me to or not.

Many times I've found useful info in the older content.

Re: Old Screen Names?

Thats really impressive to have 700 people minimum sign in each day, plus over 5,000 visitors. This has become an almost essential piece of information for me and my business. Did this site start from a big company? Or did nathan start it?

Just me and A LOT of help from the moderators and some past moderators like Grumpy.

We are not a large company. I have a full time job (well, looking again) and do this in my "free time". I only make that clear because I get a lot of people who get mad if I don't email them back in an hour or ask to speak to our marketing dept or whatever. I get over 300 legit emails a day and sometimes it takes a day or two to catch up.

But we get by pretty well. Mostly because of the great members on this site

You can come work for me anyday! Anyone that can jump start and continue to manage a site of this size and stature has a place on my payroll anyday of the week...You can manage the new painting division

300 legit e-mails/day? And you replied to my e-mail re: my password the same day? I'm impressed.

Well, I should qualify that a bit. Probably 60 or 70 of these are new member registrations across all the different sites of which I read every one looking for legit contracting trades and evidence of spam bots. I also get a few other types of notifications and of course a lot of questions on how to use the site, reset passwords, and so on. I just ment 300 emails or so that aren't outright spam.
