Nosey Neighbors

I guess I have to vent a little.

I started building a 1500 sq' house down the road from my home. It is going to be a vacation rental but the neighbors think it is only a guest house.

I am working on this alone and have managed to frame all the exterior walls and complete all the foundation work in a week.

I have had a continuous stream of nosey neighbors that know nothing about building, offering their suggestions on proper framing and design
I am in Texas so I think "he needed killing" is a proper defense in a court of law?

Questions to date:

Why are all the studs pink?

Well, had to have a little fun with this one.....cause I'm a queer and had to special order them so when my buddies come they know which house is mine??

Why are you building it so high?

I grew up in the northeast and I miss the higher altitude

I didnt know you knew how to do this stuff?

I don't, I just stand here when people drive by. My workers are all in the garage and they have been trained to hide when people or cars are near! You don't think I want blisters do you!

Yeh, they look to the garage expecting to see my guys?

I want you to build a house for me. But not till you finish this one and work all the tweaks out!

This is like the one above! I have been working construction since I was 8 years old. I even quit high school because I loved it so much
Why do they think I still have all sorts of tweaks to work out?
Do I need to start blowing my own horn more and convincing my neighbors that I am "CONSTRUCTION MAN"?
Perhaps if I go and do some free work for them they could see how good I was and then I could get the respect I deserve!!

Wow, you are fast

This is nothing. You ought to see me screw! Twenty-thirty seconds tops! Wanna see? I have pink studs!!

Well, on this note I need to go down and start working. I will have many question to answer today.

Do they have pink studs where you live?

I suppose it was a bad choice of words on my part using queer instead of gay?

The question is 'Where do you live?"

Re: Nosey Neighbors

The only pinkish studs that I am aware of which have a tint of red are actually the fire rated materials/studs.
Other then that, nope, I am not used to pink studs.

Re: Nosey Neighbors

Here's a couple more for you...

It took you a week to do the foundation and framing the exterior walls? They can finish a whole house in a week on Extreme Home Makeover - what took you so long?

While you're here, I have a couple of things to ask you/get done. Do you mind coming over "when you have a minute"?

Personally, I've only had one good experience with a nosey neighbour. He asked me to run a piece of 1/4 round through my table saw so he could run speaker wire behind it. I did it because he asked nicely and was a nice guy. He came back over after he installed the trim and gave me 2 cuban cigars for the favor.

Re: Nosey Neighbors

I have to share my nosey neighbor story - because I will trade with you! 3 years ago we hired a contractor to hook us up to city sewer - I have two neighbors to the left of me, and no house on the right, that neighbor lives around the corner, but their property borders me. To hook up to the sewer we had to go 150ft - from our house, across a field (owned part by town, and part by state) and into the main rd. This (around the corner) neighbor caught wind of our plans and quickly went to the state excess land department to try to purchase the said field. Tied us up for a year. The town was coming over weekly to pump my cess pool out for free. I finally got it resolved by writing a letter to the Governor. I could go on and on with our run ins with this neighbor....

What a dip. Obviously he didn't speak to his attorney, because the city could have come in and condemned a portion of that land during the sale, effectively lowering the cost to him, for a utility right of way for your sewer. In addition, they could keep him from doing anything on that property that would endanger the utility easement and thus, your sewer.

Greedy bastard, did you file a suit against him in civil court for pain, suffering and mental anguish? Having to have your cesspool pumped weekly surely lost you favor with Martha S. and her friends, since you couldn't have them over for bridge on those days.

LOL! Here is the Pisser - this guy is a RTM member (representative town meeting) in my towns district. There was no sale of the property - he just tied it up with the state because it had to run it's legal course. I had our towns first selectman helping us (which is why we got the pump assistance) It wasn't until I wrote to the Govenor that they resolved it by giving their portion of this field back to the town with the stipulation they let us run our sewer line across.
