North Carolina Developer

Wondering how many NC contractors there are out there? (Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Fayetteville area)

I'm headed down at the end of the month. Naturally I'll be golfing for the 1st two weeks or so, but then it's time for business. Actually, I'll wait untill she stops cooking before I get back to work.

On a more serious note... I'm looking to get familiarized with contractors from the areas mentioned above. Information on Excavation Companies would be very helpful.

Re: North Carolina Developer

As I look at the amount of members on this site, I'm hoping to get a nice response from Carolina contrators of all trades. I dont mind researching the old way if I have to. If I cant find contractors I guess I wont be golfing.

Platinum24,
My first phase should be about 50 acres. Subdivision and infrastructure complete by this time 2008.

Inevitably I will be interviewing GC's and subs along with bid out. You know the routine.

Do you stick build new, do you have a crew and where about are you located?

Re: North Carolina Developer

My parents just retired and moved down there (Carolina Shores, near the SC border along the coast). Now they want me to pickup and move down there too. The weathers nice and all but $15 bucks an hour for an electrician with 17 years experience just ain't gonna cut it. Besides, I'd have to give up my Jets tickets.

Re: North Carolina Developer

LOL. Be nice to your parents, trade your Jet tickets for Panther tickets and buy a set of clubs. There all fixed.

In all honesty, everything is cheaper down there so it balances. I cant wait to price out framing loads.

I'd be glad to help you out if I were a little closer. Winston-Salem is a little far away. I'm sure you will do well.

This is very interesting I am a custom carpenter, cabinetmaker here in NJ cannot afford to stay here much longer. Wife and I over 65 and are considering the Rock Hill area of SC. I will need to continue making some income. Any input on the area, work possibilites, and whether they still hate Yankees down there?

GO PANTHERS!
Metrojoebarbs,
I'm a paint contractor. Do you know the average size of the homes you will be building? I do primarily repaints now, but have done a ton of new work in the past, problem is now the GCs around this area don't want to pay enough to buy grocerys. 50 acres is a nice start, with homes lined up and the GC committed to one paint contract. I can turn you on to an Excavation Companie in the area. If you like to talk about a painting contractor, give me a shout in PMs.

SmithBuilt,
Have you ever dealt with any inspectors from the Fayetteville area and do you know any GC's in the same area

Nah! They just have bumper stickers that remind us how they don't care about how we "used to do it up north". I actually really like it down there though.

I'm gonna go ahead and hold onto the Jets tickets.

Good luck!

DonB,
I will be concentrated in building ground level structures between 1400-2000 square with glass Carolina rooms. My homes will cater to the retired (baby boomers). Not to big, not to small. Keeping them fairly small is less space to heat/cool and most of all clean for the retired. I'm researching gated communities right know but as I price land near golf courses and shopping stores the prices per acre rise considerably. The old horse farms are looking good right now. They are stripped and it's always nice not having to stump.

LOL. I hear ya. I golfed Pinehurst last Memorial weekend and started kicking it around to some bankers there. When I told them what I was thinking of doing down there, I was automatically from Manhattan and I was going to build a skyscraper on Main Street.

By the way I'm a Giant fan. I always route for the Jets in the AFC. Come Jets/Giants Superbowl, I've got togo with the G men

Metro,
When you get ready to start building, let me know, and we can talk then. 1400-2000 sq has alot of appeal to the folks thinking about retirement. And around golf heaven you should do well. I will look forward to hearing from you.

No I have not, Fayetteville is about 3 hours from me. I don't know much about that area. What attracts you to that particular area?

Pinehurst Southern Pines area I can understand, lots of retirees moving to the area.

Kernersville not too far from you.
