No Time For A Doctor

A brief spinoff to the thread about being sick or injured and not going to a doctor. Just wanted to share a quick story about a friend of mine who is a tree cutter, and he recently had a minor scratch on his cornea. Welp, he ended up getting an infection caused by mold spores from the trees and didn't go to the doctor. The mold spread further into his eye, and by the time he went to the docs he was pretty close to losing his eyesight! He was too busy with work to seek medical attention sooner. That's one body part you don't want to mess around with!!

Re: No Time For A Doctor

I am All for the times when a guy needs to "Buck Up and Tough it Out"

As long as a person is intelligent enough to know when that time is !!!

Sometimes the most beneficial action "Is to See a Doctor" because Modern Medicine Really Works Sometimes...

There are times when a visit to the MD and expense for a scrip will have a guy on his feet and workin alot faster than trying to get thru it and making other people sick along the way.

We all need to be sensible and take care of the things that we depend on to make our livings !!! Mainly Our Health, cuz without it We are WORTHLESS !!!

Time is Money and Everyone needs to be at their best level of performance as much as possible.

Be Safe, Work Smart and Know When to Say WHEN !!!

Re: No Time For A Doctor

Here in Toronto we have universal health care, so a visit to a doctor costs nothing. Also, we have a company insurance plan, and those of my guys who want to can opt in. For a single it is $130/month and includes full dental, prescriptions and eyeglasses.
We also have walk-in clinics in most areas where you can go in without an appointment, and they are usually open till 7 or 8 PM, so there is no excuse for not going.
Of course, there are plenty of people who take the macho attitude of your friend, but that's stupid.

Sometimes it can be the smallest of things.

A friend of ours got a small cut on her finger while gardening. It got infected by some microbe and they had to remove the index finger on her right hand.

At least I can stop the frost bite before I lose fingers.

Re: No Time For A Doctor

Spent a week in the hospital one year ago because of a spider bite that got infected in my leg. Went from my ankle to my hip over about 1 months time (big red streak, excruciating pain) before I saw the doc. Admitted immediately.....oops.

The microbes are universal. Being in NY isn't going to save you.

On the other hand I've never had to worry about frostbite.
