New Posts By Topic

As you know, we are always out to improve this site and I think today’s improvement will be useful to all.
Up until now you only had one option to search new posts. When you preformed this search you saw all the new posts from every topic on the site. But some people are only interested in on particular topic.
So, today we added a New Posts link next to the title of each topic on our homepage. Clicking this link will give you only the new posts from that topic and its sub topics.

Hopefully you guys find this useful. Let me know if you have any questions.

hmmm, I didn't have to. On the name homepage is the only place it shows up. There is a green link that says "New Posts" next to each title.

FYI in case it comes up, I had left the CT open while I was out, (just in case you wanted to turn my machine into a zombie **** spammer while I was gone), and did not see them when I got back
I signed off, decided not to dump cookies to see what would happen, signed on and they are there
I use the auto sign on

I guess anyone that has been signed on this AM (EST), and has not signed off yet, may need to sign off/on to view them

Nathan, is there any way to "new posts" on multiple topics at once? Basically similiar to the existing new posts button which shows ALL topics, however it only shows the topics we've selected? Perhaps in our profile we can ehck off a list of "preferred" topics, and if checked only those topics display when clicking the new posts button?

To me, it's no easier or harder to browse the topics I want by clicking the topic name, rather than clicking the "new posts" for that topic. If I click the topic name it shows me the topics in chronoligical order, thus the highest topic is the new topic, kind of defeating the purpose of the new topics by category.

Back to my original question. Any way to search new topics by preferred categories, rather than all or just one category?

I guess the other option is I could always create a html file and store it on my hard drive and use that as my entry page and just create a static link to only the topics which interest me... However this doesn't solve a quandry as to why people post topics in the wrong categories. So many people ask business and marketing questions in the painting forum for example. It baffles me.

There is a way to filter the results but I don't think I can set it up as a custom field in your profile.

If you tell me what topics you are interested in I can post a link for you. Example: here is a link to get just Roofing, Marketing, and Business.

Seems redundant to have new posts by topic.... BUT Thank you very much for that link you provided. I will bookmark that. I am sure I will miss some good topics of discussion which have been improperly placed but oh well.

I don't know if dogetnew and dogetdaily do the same thing? If I did dogetdaily and skipped a few days coming to the forum, would that lose all but the day I am visiting? Ahhh I'll just dogetnew

Yea, I knew you didn't really like it but I think it can be helpful for some others. We will see.

For example, painting has a few sub topics under it. Clicking New Posts will give you the posts from all those sub forums too. As we expand into more sub forums for every category this will help a lot (I THINK).

I'm not sure if it's habit, or it's just as easy to click on and enter the sub-forum rather than "new posts"
