The New "Demolition And Hazardous Materials Forum".

Well , it's not here yet, I'm just suggesting it. We all do a little demo and get into some old stuff and we don't really know what it is. I've noticed that the landfills in my area are not totally up to snuff on hazardous materials. Soo i'm suggesting an area where it can be discussed. It could be down in the basement the the P&R gang.

My first post would be on PCB ballasts which we have all been around. They don't belong in the landfills and are bad for the planet, your grandkids, and their grandkids, on infinitum. They can also get your metal scrappers a big fine even if they don't know about them.

My second post would be about "Zonolite" which i've already posted about and got an @$$ chewing.

I wouldn't mind learning more about haz mat's that my dumps normally take but have really bad affects on mama earth. I'm not a tree humper or anything, but learning more sounds good!

I'm no tree hugger either. I just want my kids to be smarter than me and their kids to be smarter than them... At 54 I find that some of the things I've been warned about are true. Some are BS. To help sort it out for the next generations is the task.

I would suggest we add a Haz/Mat section, for everything that falls in the category, including demo disposal to where to get rid of LI batteries.

I agree it would be beneficial to everyone on this board. Contributors could share Information on everything from identifying , handling ,proper legal disposal of hazardous materials , and who to contact. .

So, what should the title be and should it be a sub forum of health and safety?

I know too many topics gets confusing but I think Demo could stand alone. Haz Mat could go with health and safety but not buried. "Health, Saftey, Haz Mat, Environment"??.

Good Idea actually... I think DesPro got it...
"identifying , handling , (and) proper legal disposal of hazardous materials"
Maybe add something about recycling.

How about

Hazardous Materials, Identification and Disposal

I think it would be good to have it but not sure where it should go. It might get buried in the "Health and Safety" topic.

Great idea K2, what the heck is Zonolite, and why did you get your butt chewed off?

It's some nasty asbestos poured insulation that was sold up into the
90's sold as an attic filler around batt insulation. I've been around it and it is easily and I mean easily airborn, (within the confines of the house). I don't think it is a hazard to the neighbors... Got chewed out because nobody wanted to hear about it. That was a couple of years ago.

On another note, I would also be very interested in having an area to discuss these problems and how to deal with them. good suggestion.

Sorry guys... this thread was kind of lost during the upgrade. I'll try to add the new forum this week. Thanks for the suggestions.
