Never Do Work For Friends Part 987654323

Venting here..... Friend of my wife..

My crew shows up, but nobody answers the door. Friend should be home, but nobody answers the door even after ringing the door bell. Supervisor calls me asking what to do, I say unload the stuff and stay put I will call the woman's husband and find out what is going on.

Call husband.. husband won't pick up the phone, I leave message asking him to contact his wife or find some way to let us in.

Meanwhile, wife is inside panicking because she didn't recognize these guys as my crew and calls husband. Husband picks up phone and calls 911.

My guys are now surrounded by four police cars and are threatened with arrest. Supervisor and cop starts to argue. Supervisor calls me.. I call the husband (again). Husband refuses to pick up the phone.

Cops leave, crew leaves, Supervisor pissed, I have a temp laborer who was on the clock the whole time, Husband still hasn't returned my call.

Trying to resist urge to beat the crap out of Husband for not doing something really simple to defuse the situation.. PICK UP THE PHONE!

Called the wife to call her friend and let her know what a mess this morning was and why.

Let me guess... either the husband is mental.. and/or the wife runs out of money$$ (seek & hide)

Husband is a bit of a flake IMHO. He has a cell phone that he never turns on (why have the phone then). I was told, when starting this job, that he was going to start answering his phone. Apparently, he only answers phone calls from his wife.

They are getting 20% of the cost of the work rebated from the State.. This is not an expensive project for them.

Had it happen when the customer left the cellar door unlocked for me, but set the alarm anyway.

Waited 1/2 hour for the cops to show up, because if I drove away I'm sure a neighbor would of taken my lic # down.

I guess they finished their breakfast, never showed

I agree with that. Let them know it was not cool.

If they refuse to pay just keep sending them a bill every month. Late, Overdue, etc... Add interest as well every time

Don't add up. First of all the police would have spoke with the wife at the door before they left her property, or searched for her dead body. Second, if your guys didn't kill the wife she would have been alive to tell the police she was having work done and your guys would then go in and do it. Third why did the cop let your guys leave after your supervisor killed your customer?

Your story is too funny because my boyfriend was tarping a roof last night in the rain when several cops forced him down and hand cuffed him.

Now the darn tenant called the landlord to report the leaking roof who in turn told her that he would send someone out to take care of the problem the same day. When she heard the pounding she thought someone was trying to break into her house.

How do these people function?

Yes... the roof. Always break in through the roof. It's obviously the best place to break into somebody's house!

Then you just drop through the drywall in the ceiling like superman and hold them hostage!

That's what I was thinking as I was reading it.

Did they know you were sending guys over THAT morning? Or was it "I'll send my guys over when we can get to it" kind of thing and they weren't expecting anyone?

Very odd.
