NASE insurance company

My wife has not had health insurance for over a year now. She saw a ad for this company and a man came to our place and we purchased a plan. After doing this, I have been hearing from people that they are basically a joke and that their insurance is crap. Has anyone dealt with them and are there other reputable insurance companies out there that will take individuals ??

Never heard of that company, but I would call some better known carriers, then get quotes on rates and coverages.

NASE ---National Association of the self employed.

I bought into this quite a few years ago as they offered insurance for my children without me having to be on the policy. You have to join the organization to get their group policy rates--monthly dues of 15 bucks. Still have one daughter on the policy and can not wait for her to move into her own policy.

What started out as about 150 a month for 3 kids is now 250 a month for one. Not a bad premium, but the policy covers absolutly nothing -ie dr. co-pays, lab work etc until after the deductable has been met. The only times the policy really cam into play was for a couple of extended hospital stays, and I guess that has made the expense worth it. Oh, there is also an emergency room rider that can be useful if you opt for it.

I went with this at the time because it was affordable and met my needs (court ordered coverage as part of the child support package),
but the youngest is now 20, and I'm ready for the monthly debit on my bank account to stop.

From what I was told, there is only a deductible on hospitalization, not on Doctor visits.

I know my wife shops for our insurance and she has always said that NASE was a joke.
Not that any knocks our socks off but she has closed the door on them many times.
She is very detailed on her questions and is good at getting to the bottom of things so I would trust her judgement. Heck she married me

I was a memebr for about 9 months beofer I realized I was getting ripped off. Only worked with hospitals that supported the Devon Group(?), which of course none of the ones near me had, no doctor's visits, dental and eye care add-ons were a joke, and the oen time I went to the ER(heat exhaustion) the 80/20 turned into 60/40, and had me on the phone witht he hospital numerous times convincing them I had insurance.

I have it. It' basically catastrophic health care. As mentioned above, no co-pays, dental coverage is a joke. Our's does pay 30-40% of prescription costs. My plan covers 2 adults, 2 children. The premeuim's really started to climb once we both passed 40. I pay $ 735./month with a 5k deduct per person. It sounds like alot but imagine if an uninsured drunk hit your car and put your entire family in the hospital. Wouldn't take long to pass 100k in hospital bills.
My wife needed sinus surgery in January. THe doctor estimated the total cost would be 12-14k. this was for day surgery. Final cost was over 20k. There is some formula based on last year's deduct so I only had to pay $4,200. of the bill.
I have looked into other insurance companies but because of our advanced age (both 47) and a history of cancer in my wife's family, her brother died of brain cancer at 42, we are considered high risk and the premium quotes are $1,400+ per month. I'm at the point of looking forward to socialized health care.
