Mystery Charges

I've never been one to look too close at the bills when I'm paying them. Usually just a quick glance and then write the check. Seems like now every "quick glance" finds some kind of mystery charge of some sort or another. It's annoying because then you have to spend an hour or more getting this crap cleared up.... I'm shopping for a new insurance agent today and if Direct TV calls with a "special deal" their phone agent will get a butt chewing.

On the other hand, I've never found a problem with my "Contractor Talk" bill.

Re: Mystery Charges

Sounds like the same explanation I keep having to give my wife about those alleged 'escort service' fees on the credit cards . . .

seems like that's normal nowadays. lumber companies started doing that quite a few years a go. Hell, I won't be ashamed to say my new job, I give them a fuel surcharge bill. Though I'm traveling all over the place and they can't say much about it.

Re: Mystery Charges

Screw the surcharge pricing!

Just add it in somewhere else in your bill.

No one likes to see the word "surcharge" on thier bill with a $125.00 beside it.

Re: Mystery Charges

It's normal business and as a service electrician, you should be charging it too. If you get called to a job 100 miles out, then it costs you that much more in time and fuel. Don't like it? Don't charge it. I am and I'm getting paid. People like to see charges broken down and what they're paying for. Too bad.

Re: Mystery Charges

I hear ya loud and clear. I get paid travel time there and back on every service call. These are the set terms if a customer insists on hiring you to do a job that's 100 miles away. If they're willing to pay for that I think that says alot about the craftsman who'll be doing the work. If it's worth it to them, they'll pay it. All we have to do is get them to agree to it or we don't do the work.
