this is my 1st job using mortar in the shower area

something weird happen tho i used HD Flex bond (i forgot which one) and it so happen i laid down the wrong tile so 3 days later i had to tear them off, and to my surprise they came off with ease out of 44 tiles only 4 broke, and i did a wet mix, just so it sticks and was set on Ply wood, not Chip wood, how is this possible

Re: Mortar Mix?

Tile is a funny thing . Was the tile clean of mud when it popped up .Did the mud come off the floor ? Some times if you don't use the flex bond on porcelain tile it will come off clean . Was it warm in side ? Ive had a problem with HD flex bond , i used some old bags to do part of a job and some areas where louse and had to be redone it was a 25 bag job. ( Large custom bathroom) Its funny i had 3 old bags of mud and had to take up 3 small areas 4' 6"x 4' 6" it was funny three spot and 3 missing bags of old HD mortar. My guys did the job . The tile was a porcelain base with a marble veneer over it like a checker board . I never had any luck with tile on ply wood I always lay 30# felt and wire with a 3/4" mud job or 3/8 scratch coat if the floor is level . If the mud sat to long on the floor and started to dry the tile can pop off . If it was cold it could take longed to cure . I like the tec stuff John
