More Craigslist Crap

There's a painter running an ad stating over 5 years professional commercial and residential experience-will work for $15/hr.

15/hr is bottom feeder wage here, fyi.

And someone advertising lawn maintenance and landscaping in exchange for fruit and vegetables.

Is this what it's really coming to?

Could be. I'm thinking of running a CL ad stating I will work for Knob Creek Bourbon, American Sprit cigs, and .357 hollow poin ammo.
WTF, maybe I'll find the right clentele.

American Spirit-now THAT'S a smoke. I used to smoke the non-filtered. They were great-it felt like hot steel penetrating your lung!

Wayyy back in the day, I used to be a tobacco wholesaler. I was the only distributor in HI handling NAS. It was in their early days, and no one wanted to deal with them.

I still have a bunch of crap laying around-tins, bumper stickers...and my favorite piece-NAS logo neon light.

They're HUGE now, as you know. I did a remodel for an attorney that handles some West Coast biz for them. If I recall, that is a Native American enterprise based in NM.

Yeah, I tried the non-filters, too much even for me. Then I was on the blues, now the yellows.
$6.15 a pack in the 7-11's around here. Much cheaper to buy on the 'net by the carton, but I'm a denial smoker. Every pack is my last, so I buy one at a time.
Worthless filthy habit that it is.

If you were in my neck of the woods, I'd hire you for those wages.

$15 isnt a terrible wage around here. You can also buy a decent house under 100k here too.

Re: More Craigslist Crap

Oh come on...

Who wouldn't want the top quality work of a 5/yr professional for $15.00/hour??

That's a no brainer guys..hell, i'll get him to repaint my house. He isn't licensed though so I won't bother paying him when he's done. I'll be sure to nit pick and find something wrong with his work, though I am sure it will be hard as 5 years in the trade is a lifetime!

Come on, I wouldn't hire someone with only 5 years experience in construction to clean my gutters out.

Re: More Craigslist Crap

I once saw a CL ad for a licensed electrician that advertised all residential wiring for $2 ft².

I would have loved to call him up and set up an appointment to meet him at one of my job sites.

Me: So, two bucks a square foot, huh?"

Him "Yep!"

Me: "OK, I need a 200-amp service here. I figured it out and it comes to about 5 square feet. Here's a twenty... keep the change."

Once the stimulus package gets going everything will be just dandy.

In Hawaii, or big urban areas (where living expenses are very high) 15/hr may be peanuts, but around here, you could find some decent guys willing to work for that. there's a lot of guys with no work that would take 15 over 0 per hour. Maybe in Hawaii a painter that is only asking 15 must know nothing, but you can't assume that here.

That crew is national:

It's a bunch of illegal aliens, they have a ton of crappy websites and advertise on crag's lists across the country, just remember they're only here to do the jobs Americans won't.

Re: More Craigslist Crap

I'm looking at the time stamps on our posts. While we're sitting here laughing at them, obviously at home with no jobs, some guys are out there taking the $15 we won't see. It's getting harder and harder to see my pride as something I can put on my family's table.
