More Boot Talk

Hey guys I was browsing the older boot threads and really didnt find anything on this. Long story short, Timberland Pro stopped making my favorite boots.
I am looking for something:
6" high
steel toe
waterproof
if possible, insulated
maybe the light tan color
and comfortable

I know I know I'm picky

I didn't know if anyone maybe wears something like that or could think of a boot off the top of their head.

Thanks, Dave

Have to agree with Neolitic, Redwings are the best boots I've ever owned. I know everybody has different work terrains and different preferences, but I'll stick with Rewing.

Re: More Boot Talk

Another for Redwing, haven't had a better fitting or longer lasting boot then theirs.

I don't know if Knapp is still in business, but stay away from those pieces of crap.

Just checked they are still in business:

Quote:
For a limited time, Original, Made in USA Knapp shoes are back.

These shoes are made at the original Knapp factory in Maine by the folks who have been making Knapp Shoes for over 30 years.
We proudly offer you 'Made in America, Again' high quality Knapp footwear.

For a limited time? Until the workers die? Until the lease runs out on the factor? What the hell are they talking about.

I might give them a try if they are made in the USA. Seems to be a trend towards that made in the USA again, that's a good think provide they're good products.

Where's the "outlet" store, are they cheaper there? Is there something wrong with the ones at the outlet store?

Re: More Boot Talk

Well guys I took a ride to the shoe store tonight, theres really only one near me that sells redwing boots. They really didnt have to good of a selection and since my old boots probly won't last one more day I needed them tonight so I ended up going over to the sporting goods store and picking up some cheap timberlands theyre not waterproof or insulated but I'll give em a try i guess. Until I can find another place that sells the redwings.

Now here is the sad story for the night!
I was at the shoe store looking at the redwings on the shelf they said Made in USA, then the guy brought the box from the back and inside the boot it said......... Made in china !!! I guess even redwing is going over seas I checked a couple more styles and they said the same!

Dave
I heard that was the case with their cheaper footwear, if it turns out all their products are made in China I'll be looking for a new boot maker, might take a look at Knapp.

Found this:
Quote:
I've started a sidebar column on this page called Glocal Story Ideas, and it will be the actual story idea list that I use as a journalist. However, I am publishing it here in the spirit of the new open and collaborative journalism. If any other journalist has any interest in using any of these ideas you are welcome to, just let me or the Glocal Man list know. And if you'd like to contribute a glocal idea, or your glocal list, please do. My first idea is to write about Red Wing Shoes. Based in Red Wing, Minnesota, the company proudly says they are one of the last two major U.S. manufacturers of work boots that manufactures boots entirely in the U.S. What's interesting and could be the peg of a feature story is how globalization is steadly eroding that claim -- and finding the point where that claim is just nonsense. For many styles of work books in the Red Wing line, most of the individual shoe parts are pre-assembled and pre-stitched in other countries, especially China. The percentage of these pre-made bits have been increasing over the years. At what point will Red Wing have to say, "Okay, our boots are no longer 'Made in the USA?'" Will it be at the point when the entire boot is made in Shanghai and sent over here, just so one American worker in Red Wing can put tissue paper in the box? There are folks already who say it's a stretch to say "Made in the USA." Getting those folks on the one hand, and the Red Wing folks on the other, with a few anecdotes and color thrown in and ... nice feature piece.

Last I knew their other brands were made else where, but the Redwings are made here.
Mine are 5(?)years old now, but they say
"made in USA."

Re: More Boot Talk

Thanks Mickey , That was a good read

Thanks Neo, I just noticed that there might be another location close to me that might have some good styles in stock. What sucks is I called a lot of those locations and they said they really didn't have much in stock and that I would have to order them, but I'm so freakin picky I gotta try them on first

Hopefully I can find some made in the USA!

Re: More Boot Talk

It's weird, here in Indy the only
places to buy Redwing are
Redwing stores.
They sell nothing but Redwing
brands and Carhart.

Re: More Boot Talk

Redwings are great....still have my first pair purchased in 1997. My father was a mechanic for 30+ years and and he always swore by MASON boots. I don't even know if they exist anymore, but I know he had one pair re-soled three times before he finally wore them out.

Hey Mickeyco, The Redwing outlet is on Harlem avenue by Lawrence in Harwood Heights. They are cheaper, but can't tell you off the top of my head. I've only bought there & never had to pay full price.

Thanks, that's not to far for me at all, I have a place in Park Ridge so I'm up that way ocassionally, I'll have to take a look and might as well get a Super Dawg while I'm out that way.

No 11-1/2 A's.

What's the A in "11-1/2 A's", narrow width?
