Microwave In The Van???

I searched and found a similar thread but no one said how to hook one up.
I don't have a welder and my generator is too big to carry around everyday and would be too loud just to heat up lunch.

Is there any other way to hook up a microwave in a work van?
I just got a e350 extended super duty. My e250 got totaled.

Batteries, a charger (maybe able to run off the alternator) & an inverter (you will need a 3000 watt one more than likely)

Re: Microwave In The Van???

You need to find out how many watts it draws then buy a 12v to 110v power inverter. Or just use a long ext. cord

Oy! It ain't NORAD. 1 Kw running off the vehicle battery would be more than enough. Might need to run the engine to help it out a little.

Hot meals are for office workers.

Everyone I know uses a new-fangled thing called an extension cord.

That would only be if you were to use the inverter ALL THE TIME for extended periods of time.

A good grade deep cycle battery and an inverter large enough to power the microwave. You can charge the battery through a battery isolator connected to the other battery. I have a 3000 watt inverter that I can run my house on when there is a power outage. I run my furnace, refrigerator, a few lights and a TV.

Not if I can avoid it. 15 years of field service work and fast food on the run cured me of that.

If you're on the road a lot, rig up one of those exhaust manifold ovens.

Re: Microwave In The Van???

I had one set up in my old work truck on a 1000 watt inverter. You gotta watch because the inverter will heat up to pretty dangerous levels. I used the smallest microwave I could find (600 watt) and it took like 15 minutes to heat up some left-overs. Not really worth it in my opinion. It was a diesel f350 and I always idled up while I was running it. I only used it for like a week and just didn't trust it any more after that.

Re: Microwave In The Van???

Get a 2400 or 3000 watt unit and you won't have to worry about overheating. They run about $400-$500 these days. You can run a bunch of different tools on them.
