MHIC Contract's , Contract Law? Change Order Law?
Our company has always done the 1/3 Deposit, 1/3 when job begins, and 1/3 when work is complete, for our standard contracts. This is how we understood was MHIC law.
Now... Once we have a contract on a job, often time we have a homeowner who will want additional work done. The industry term is "Change Order" for this type of contract. Does anyone have a link to what the State of Maryland Law is for the legal payment structure on a "Change Order?" Thank You Very Much In Advance! |

Re: MHIC Contract's , Contract Law? Change Order Law?
I had to look this up - MHIC is the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, for us out-of-staters.
If there's no specific process for a change order, why not just write it up as an entirely separate contract? When there's a clear path for that, it beats coming up with a questionable system for changes.

The change order terms should be established in your original contract.
If they have signed the contract, they have agreed to those terms. Most say, change order payment due upon invoicing from contractor.
