melting snow reveals a few secrets.

Years ago i was doing a small job in a development and i noticed one of the neighbors had a roof where the snow was almost totally melted whereas the other similar roofs in the area, facing the same general direction had about 6 or 8 inches of snow. I saw the owner late in the day and mentioned this to him and bla, bla, bla, he came back and said his 22x30 attic access panel had not been put back in place.<P>

I'm sure most of you guys have seen this but many times you can count the trusses/rafters, tell if they are 24 or 16 inches oc, and maybe tell if the ceiling is vaulted or flat. Sometimes the snow melts off the overhangs first and sometimes it stays on the overhangs longer. There are a few other things i notice but i hate long posts, and i have to bake some pies, So I'll just say Merry Christmas. RT.

I have a few "dots" on the roof where there are recessed cans closer to the sheathing. Much more worrisome are neighbor's roofs in which I see great bare rectangles or squares. You can often pick out more recent additions to homes. The addition will still have snow on the roof, and the original section will all be melted off.
