To Meddle ... Or Not To Meddle

I hate meddling ... and I hate meddlers

but ive got some other contractors working on my site (on a seperate project) that are ignorant, unscrupulous, and well, they're idiots

I've already seen evidence of problems

Should I tell the HO?

It's not really my business, or is it??

If it's affecting your job, yes. But leave out any opinion of them. Just the facts as it pertains to your job. If it's not affecting your job, I would say no, unless it's really blatant. I know sometimes what I think is incorrect can actually be part of a correct procedure.

Re: To Meddle ... Or Not To Meddle

The only time I ever say anything to the HO is when it affects the outcome of my work and makes me look like a hack. Case in point, I just did a big log handrail job and the framer framed the stairs but had no consideration of how to attach a handrail to it and make it look good and so I told the homeowner. He agreed, but the framer was long gone by then.

P.S. It still looked good after I was done just took a little longer to get there.

I say mind your business, don't be a rat or weasel...
You will look like a little girl in front of the HO and other trades...IMHO.

We complain alot about other subs to ourselves, but 99% of the time it isn't worth saying anything. Like said above, if their actions or work affect yours, then you should say something.

Scrap the 'hero' mentality.

There is nothing good or profitable that can ever come of squealing on another tradesman. The 'customer service' mentality of a good tradesman almost necessitates that he point out the flaws of other tradesmen to the client. It's an urge that you need to fight off with all your will.

Then, you'd have a legitimate reason to complain. Until then, hold off if you can.

Or if it's really bad and something NEEDS to be said, say it to the subs themselves first. If they're being unscrupulous, just having someone say somthing to them might make them pull it together.....OR it might get yer tires slashed...

If it is a safety or fraud issue, I say jump right in. If it is an "interpretation" issue, leave it alone.
