Measuring Sqft

Hey I'm new to this whole thing but I was wondering if I could get some help from someone. I was told if I wanted to hang, tape and finish a house with drywall, I would neeed to get the total sq ft of the house on the blue prints and than multipy that by 4.3. Example: 1500 sqft home would be 6450 of board ft. Than I would take that number (6450) and multipy it by whatever I would charge a sqft (.50). Is this correct?

Re: Measuring Sqft

What happens to your formula if it's a 2 bedroom house vs. a 4 bedroom house? 2 baths vs. 4 baths, extra closets, etc., etc. Those rules of thumb are only for you and they are not acurate at all, don't tell the customer this stuff, if the number is cheaper than actual they will try and hold you to it. Do a proper take off.

Re: Measuring Sqft

What does the 4.3 stand for? In Idaho the rate per sqft is .50-.55. If I charged a client .50 a sqft does a bid of $3225 sound about right for a 1500 sqft home (6450)?

Re: Measuring Sqft

Im no expert on bidding drywall, but if I had to to, I would probably use the print to figure linear footage of walls then multiply X ceiling height to get sq. footage of walls...the ceiling sq. footage should be a no brainer....or a half brainer if there are vaulted ceilings. In that case you need roof pitch and a little geometry.
