Material Take Offs

Can anyone tell me what method they use to do material take offs. I have always did it manually but I do not have the time now.
Are there any tools to assist me in making my life simpler.
Thank you

You can sometimes give a set of plans to the lumber yard and they'll do it for a fee.

Have the lumber yard do it for you.

Lumber yards do an OK job but you have to teach your salesman how you build. No to framer frame the same way so the list will vary and some yards will assume you build the cheapest way and with crab while other will make it a bomb shetler and sell you the good gold plated wall studs for blocking Take the time to tell them how you like to build and they can do it for you, but you need the same take off person everytime.

I do material takeoffs manually, it saves on errors.

All so true. Plus don't forget to factor in a 5% waste factor. Down time because of missed cuts and having to get more lumber can kill profit on the job.

Re: Material Take Offs

As I wrote to others before many lumberyards use estimating services. One of which I know of you can find if you google lumber list express. They do a great job and are very accurate. You have to be careful and request samples because many services are very basic and not very in depth.
