Marketing Opinion...

After seeing an idea on here about placing yard signs in customers yards and raffling away a prize after a certain amount of time to give to one of their customers, I started thinking about this idea.

What is everyone's opinion on this marketing idea.

Step 1) Buy (100) 18"x24" 2 sided full color yard signs with company info. $500

Step 2) Either call or door knock in neighborhoods that could potentionally lead to work, and ask permission to put a yard sign for a certain period of time (2-4 weeks) in which a raffle would take place and 1 person out of the 100 signs would receive a VISA gift car in the amount of lets say $250.

Step 3) Wait by the phone and hope to get leads from your signs to make up the $750 investment.

Step 4) Pick up what signs that are left after the raffle and repeat the process if actual leads came from this.

Does anyone think this could actually work?

As a everyday homeowner would you put a sign in your yard for a month for a 1-100 chance of winning $250?

Assume that the neighborhood does not have a HOA to worry about. No risk to the homeowner.

Thanks.

We have rulez around here about the placement of signs advertizing your business. That would not work here.

As you know in Jax there has been a slew of people with nothing better to do.

How long would you expect your signs to stay in the yards?

Not to mention if your competition is slow/failing what would their drunk and or angry employees do at ______ AM in the middle of the night.

(others have pointed out in other threads their signs disapearing off job sites )

I don't know alot of people that even have political signs in yards.

I think it's good "out of the box" thinking.

I guess it only takes one bid to recoup the $750 I just don't know if it's the best option for your marketing buck.

I'm not sure you would find many takers, people would most likely not believe they could really win something. You may struggle to put out enough signs to actually make it worth giving anything away.

Then if you did get a few calls what are you going to say when someone asks you about the work you did at there neighbors house.

Very original though, for thinking of it.

Since the potential customers are the same people whose doors you knock for sign placement why not skip straight to canvassing for work leads?

Thanks, for everyone's opinion. Ya I agree that it would be hard not to seem like a "scam". And you are probably right about all the signs disappearing, just trying to think of some way to get some leads. I just put a sign up in front of my house, I will see how long it last haha.

Try searching the forums using 'yard signs' for the keyword. I seem to remember a good thread about doing something similar that might work for you. It involves putting out a number of signs and a promo.
Keep thinking.

Good Luck

The Hail Storm Chasers put signs on peoples lawns that they don't even have any agreement with yet.

You lose it, it costs you the price of a sign.....So what?

Ok, let's think about what you're saying. You talk face-to-face with 100 homeowners (net) and ask them to put a job sign in their yard? Unless you're deaf, blind, and dumb*, you'll get more actual leads (and sales) by asking for permission to place the sign in their yard than you can shake a stick at. What a genius way to open up a conversation with a homeowner without sounding like a salesman. You're canvassing without even knowing it. Go for it! Great idea!

Just move your target a little further into the future, the sign is the distraction. The real goal is to sell them something so you can put a legit sign in their yard. Wow, great idea if you put your plan into action!

*no offense to the deaf, blind, and dumb

Re: Marketing Opinion...

No offense taken Bill, thanks for your input. I like your idea about using the sign as a way to start up a converation, and asking them if they need any repairs/remdeling/additions. Thanks for your thoughts.
