Maintenance Free Trellis

Is it possible to build a maintenance free trellis, or as close to maintenance free as possible.

Re: Maintenance Free Trellis

It can be made with composite which is low maintenance, but nothing is maintenance free. This is provided nothing is load bearing, composites won't handle loads.

My supplier has some composite (pvc based) lattice that would work for something like that along with some composite 4x4's. The lattice is glued together so no nails or staples showing like most lattice.

Yes, I agree, nothing is maintainence free, low maintainence is what I meant. Please tell me if you guys think that this would work. 4x4 composite for the posts. 2x6 composite for the ledger, lag screw to the house. 2x6 rafters on both sides of post and on both sides of nailing block on ledger. Ripped 2x2's from a 2x6 on the top of the rafters.

Re: Maintenance Free Trellis

Sounds like a pergola not trellis. Are you thinking of using composite 2x6's for those rafters? You can't span those very far. I'd check manufacturers specs on something like that. Maybe you could wrap wood rafters with a composite facia then put your 2x2's on top of that.
