Maibec Shingles Staining Problem

We purchased the Nantucket eastern white cedar siding shingles from Maibec, unfinished. We are now attempting to stain them with Cabot's semi-transparent oil-based stain. We pre-stained the backs and sides of the shingles, and we are now staining the front of the shingles in place. However, we are experiencing some significant clouding on the shingles. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks!

Re: Maibec Shingles Staining Problem

Can't say I've had that happen. So some questions for you.

How was the stain applied to the back face? Same method as front? Was the stain properly mixed before each application. If not maybe too much pigment/oil for second application.

How long on the walls before you started staining? What's the weather been like?

When you get a hazy or foggy look to the stain, rather than a "clear" finish you would get with a transparent stain.

Don't know if it is the case here, but if stain is not mixed well (or bad batch), maybe excess moisture in the shingles not letting stain dry properly.
