Made Homie Cry Today...
Working again for a repeat customer, we've done some other work for her in the past, mostly astetic. Installed new maintenance free vinly railing back on top of garage flat roof where her and her late husband used to spend alot of time together, new doors that were improved versions of original..just little things but she really lets you know she appreciates it and always talks about she wishes her husband was still around to see how the house is coming back to it's own-but using newer products with little to no maintenance that used to keep him busy.
Anyways, today we started her new bow window install that her very estentric/hard headed wont listen to reason cuz he knows all son had alot to do with ultimate descion making-window too small for one thing against my suggestion. Living room previously had 2 narrow double hungs at either end of the room on the same wall and he wanted to put in a bow and take out the DH's. After alot of demo and reconstruct finally go the window set in place while she was sitting there watching us work, and I start to hear sniffles. I turned around to ask if everything was alright and she said she was just soo happy with the new window and wished her husband was still around to enjoy it. I tried to lighten the mood and told her I was happy she was having tears of joy instead of tears of frustration LOL!!! Not a big deal, but it's the first time I've had a person so happy with a project it brought out the tears, obviously as highly as she talks of her husband on past jobs and given her age, she is very lonely and misses him dearly so we always try to be (as much as I hate wasted time) very social with her and listen to her stories without letting on we'd like to keep on movin, but I think the little bit of time we lose goes a long ways in her book and makes her day. I know we've all run into the dreaded senior's that could talk all day without a breath and you'd never get anything done, but every once in awhile there's cases like these where the 30minutes lost on a job really brighten someones day...and since none of us are gettin any younger trying to keep the good karma in motion is never a bad thing.

Re: Made Homie Cry Today...
I've had a few people cry, but never from joy. The normal scenario has me in their house for a late night service call, coming up from the basement to give them an approximate cost of the repair. Never a good time.
On the other hand, I've had many hugs and a few kisses. It's not all bad. |
