Lumberyards In Houston
Hi Everyone,
I just moved to Houston from Vermont and for the last couple of weeks I have been lining up subs and getting a feel for the area. It's like learning to walk again. I have been trying to locate a good lumberyard in the Houston area. I live in the Woodlands and would like to find something close by. Unfortunately there are oodles of Lowes and Home Depots around and I am looking for places with quality lumber and materials. I have found Bison, ProBuilder, and a few others but they mostly carry just lumber and the selections weren't that big. I have noticed 84 Lumber and also McCoys. Anybody know anything about them or any place I might want to look into? I had the feeling Bison and ProBuilder catered to production builders while I am a small time remodeler. I'd like to be able to pick up a couple of cases of nails, wood glue, skill saw blades, 2x4s and microlams all at the same place. Is that not possible here? I don't think I can get myself to go into Home Cheapo! Josh Jaros |

McCoys is where I go when I am around my house, they started in Galveston and have a good selection of most things. 84 lumber is also good but I have not shopped at one. Also, most Ace hardwares are independent lumber yards with a franchised Ace store front.
Good Luck |

Re: Lumberyards In Houston
I am an electrical contractor in central Texas so by no means am I claiming to be an expert on lumberyards. Several GC's that I work for use McCoys and seem pleased with their wood.

Re: Lumberyards In Houston
84's another one that caters more to production builders. Pretty good selection of wood & drywall, but you take your chances on other stuff.
Stopped in there a couple of months ago looking for a 5 lb box of sinkers. Had three guys scratching their heads trying to figure out what I was talking about. |
