Looking For A Good Company Logo

My name is Thomas Andrews and I am new to this site, I am 19 and getting ready to open my business. I am finishing my last year of school this year and am thinking about a name for my company. I live in a little town with alot of middle age and elders. I am trying to find a catchy name that is hard not to forget. Thank you for your help in advance. tom

Well, that's an incredibly vague first post. Let's start with the basics - what is your company going to do? Computer repair, nail salon, General contractor, plumber, Skydive fishing, etc...

I believe T & A Construction is already taken (byline, Specializing in Hard Wood). Other than that, the sky's the limit!

Almost forgot the Logo.

If you prefer your dream building remodel stiffly erect and throbbing with fullness rather than buildings that are flaccidly limp and not up for anything to enjoy, then
"Viagra Construction"
is your, COC, Contractor of Choice.

Rod's Hot Taps and Pipe Laying

With all seriousness, coming up with a name is either going hit you in the forehead because it's so obvious, or it's going to take a week of you constantly thinking about it.

I've always favored the proprietor's last name. Your word is your bond, and your name and reputation are everything. Of course that kind of goes out the window if you have partners.

Then again, if you have a specialty or a niche, your service should be in the name. Around us, we have Kitchens Direct, Dreammaker Kitchen & Bath, Drains N Mains, ProTapping, etc.

The GC's around here use either last names, initials, or made up words like Unicon, Vericon, etc. Some use regional names like Black River Construction, Pequest, etc.

I have an MBA in management, with a minor in marketing (not that I need that in my life in contracting, but it helps). I took every course Seton Hall had to offer in marketing. My opinion in this case? Unless you specialize or have a niche, go with your name and your trade, or a play on initials (stay away from T&A), or a local place name, in that order of preference. That's just one schmuck's personal opinion.

Also, one thing sticks out from all those marketing classes: when it comes to providing a personal service like home remodeling, the more tools you have in your marketing toolbox that spark or generate one-on-one conversation with the client, the better. Be it the name of your firm, the color of your shirt, your handlebar mustache, whatever. The more chances you give yourself to just connect personally with each individual client in conversation, the better.

Do you mean being a GC is something simple and easy, or a name that is simple and easy.

For a name, how about SIMPLY REMODELING

Re: Looking For A Good Company Logo

Are you looking for a name or a logo?

A logo is a symbol and not a calling card. Look at the Nike logo. - It does not say shoes or golf equipment. It is just to be recognized esaily and easy and inexpensive to be used effectively.

A company name is not a calling card or a brochure. It is a written name of a entity that is usable and unique. If you try to cram too much into it, it wall be ineffective and very hard to use effectively.

Avoid names like X & Y Construction because it sounds like 2 guys that just met in a bar and decided to start a company. A last name is O.K. the only thing worse would X & Y Enterprises.

Just a couple of thoughts.

TOM THUMB GENERAL CONTRACTING?

Does that mean he only does little jobs and will have to change the name as he grows?

So you think you got it all figured out at 19 huh? You wouldn't have enough experience to even touch a power tool on my crew. You might want to get some knowledge of the trade before you get in the biz but if you insist, try this for a slogan......

Re: Looking For A Good Company Logo

OK, let me rephrase that.

Construction, to many, looks simple on the cover. The only way you'll know the difference in what you think is good and what is good will be to gain some training for at least 5 years with a reputable builder/Remodeler. This is not a self taught trade.

If you're a wealthy kid with an accelerated education make sure you have good people in the field, but again, if you don't know what that is get someone that does.

Re: Looking For A Good Company Logo

I agree with Jason W because running a business isn't as easy as it looks. Most times it doesn't even look easy, much less good. Just because you are good at your trade doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be a good businessmen. And if you plan on operating a small construction company you need to be good at both.

Good luck.
