license question

Hello
I just wanted to find out, what kind of license, do I need, for bathroom and/or kitchen remodeling. I'm working without the license for 3 years and have 4 guys who work for me. A month ago, I opened a corporation and want to be more legal and make more money.I'm in Los Angeles, CA. Any ideas and thoughts will be appreciated.

California? Piece of cake. 4 years of experience, you get someone to sign you off, you pass a written test, and abra-cadabra you're a licensed general contractor!

I get it now....

The license makes it legal to screw the homeowner, so you can make more money!!!! That way they can't sue your ass when the house falls over the cliff in the mudslide after a downpouring rain..

Call your congressman, he or she can take a lot of the usual red tape out of the process.

Ignore the two jerks..

Ky, go to this website and you can find the requirements for your state.

Good luck on your venture.

They are just still carrying on over the p*ssing match that another post on here has turned into. Someone posted a similiar question relating to GC's and these two got their feathers ruffled and it spilled over into your post.

For California, your required to have a license for anything over $500 including materials. The licensing requirements and classifications are on that site I posted above for you.

Do not listen to that guy. Call your state board of contractors or your local permits office. Good to see you making an attempt to do it the right way. Some of the other more humble guys on this site should be able to help you out with more answers.

Having your congressman call ahead before you apply can help in gaining the cooperation of the civil servants that are in charge of the department, and help in making sure that none of your civil rights are violated.

I recommend turning in the application as soon as you can. It took my husband a looong time to get a test date due to state budget cuts. That was 4 years ago though. Good luck to you!
