License And Insurance
Hello to all,
I have a question regarding License and Insurance. I live in NJ and have a small company which consist of mainly of myself and a occasional helper or so as jobs warrant themselves. I want to get L/I because it is getting hard to get work if you don't have this. I do good work and everyone I ever done work for loves it, But the well is running dry. NJ one of the worst states for contractors that don't have this and I really understand that people are only protecting their best interest. Now the thing is from what I know is that if you have a felony they will not issue you a license. In case you want to know the felony it is burglary and criminal trespass. I sound like a real nice person. I did not steal anything and I was living with my girlfriend in her apartment. criminal trespass [forcing the front door open] burglary [forcing the bathroom door open once inside]. Just a little insight, By the way I am still with her today as I write this. That happened 4 years ago. I'm not perfect but I'm not a crook either. The bottom line is do any of you guys know or have heard of a similar situation and what do you think about my chance of obtaining one based on your experiences. Or should I just forget it. Thanks John T+J Remodeling

Re: License And Insurance![]() There is no "license" for remodeling in NJ - it's a registration. You cannot pull a permit w/o a registration number. You cannot get a registration number w/o insurance. http://www.nj.gov/oag/ca/contractors/contractor.htm Have you paid your debt to society? Have your record "expunged". You have a long way to go before you get a clue ~ good luck...you're gonna need it.

Re: License And Insurance
T+J, Did you read the regristration packet?
If it was just that offense on your record the state will probably issue the registration. If not, start a partnership with your girlfriend and let her apply for the registration. The state doesn't care about homeowners getting ripped, it just needs the 90 shekels out of your pocket. |

Probably not a good idea for a few reasons.
