Laminate Countertop Repair
Don't know if this is the right spot to put this but I need a little help. I just put in a new counter top in a kitchen over the weekend. Tonight the homeowner told me that there was a chip on one of the pieces. The best part is that they know i didn't cause it because i didn't have any tools on the the top and the HO was their the whole time watching and helping me. The question i have is there anything that can be done or should be done to fix the chip? BTW the chip is very small, really hard to see can only feel it. It really is not visible.
Anyway thanks in advanced. Also i would like say thanks for all the information that I have learned from this site, to better me as a contractor and business person. Thanks |

Re: Laminate Countertop Repair
well over here we have a product called colorfill you can buy the exact color to match the worktop/countertops its not the ideal thing to use but it will do the job, its best to run your hand all over the tops and check them before you cut them as they wont change them once there cut, lots of tops come damage in transit unfortunately, i take it they are laminate and not solid wood?

Re: Laminate Countertop Repair
If there is a product out there to fill in chips, I've never heard of it. I have just received business to replace about 30 work stations that all have chips in them from a beauty salon. I just tear off the old and replace with new laminate. How in the world could you color match something?

If not, how big is the section? If its a laminate top, and area is small, order a new laminate and change it. Good luck

Re: Laminate Countertop Repair
Formfill and Seamfill are the two products to help fill for seams. There are stick/pencils made to do this too. Another way would be to use an epoxy or polyurethan to fill in the void and then you could wax and buff out the finish. However, the next time they clean that area, the wax would be removed. The only other way I can think of, is to cut out a 'patch' and cut out the chip and then fill the seam after you patch it. If you're good at matching sizes, the customer should never notice the difference.
It would be easiest to just replace it though. |

Re: Laminate Countertop Repair
Thanks for the help. The HO is talking to the supplier of the countertop to see what they are going to to. I really is small that you can't see it and it is towards the back under the cabinets. But thanks for all the advice.
