My neighbor hired a carpenter off the bulletin board at the gas station to do a deck for him....i watched out my patio door with binoculars....freakin hilarious....good thing the elevation is only about 24" because it ain't gonna last
Maybe out of ignorance, but you learn quickly that it is a swamp full of tire kickers, hacks and cheap asses.

Re: Kicked Out Of Framing Job For A While, Loooong While

I too am surprised that CL people go for 40-50 per hour. It must be location I guess.

I've always found cheapskate HO's dislike hourly wages because they don't really know how long the job may take and worry you can milk a job out. I've found most HO's like a fixed number or a high-low estimate so they know if it's something they can afford.

Just deleted any trace of framing. 15 years of working outside in Mn winters and summers disappeared. Law is law.

I think he is still building, he was trying to gear towards Decks. He had a lot going on and I'm sure he decided he didn't want to spend as much time here. This place is like smoking you got to quit when you want to quit

brancard was never scared of a little Heat.

Eric Brancard is an very talented guy. He's working as a PM for a large timber-frame outfit.

I missed your little spat with him. Must've been interesting.

So, why aren't you licensed? Inquiring minds want to know.

IIRC, he had some new little feet running around?

No way could he be run off by a Craigslister.

I couldn't click on the link you provided to your state's laws.

I suspect your state frowns upon unlicensed contractors contracting with homeowners, whether framing, trimming, or building decks. They don't care if you frame, trim, or roof, so long as you are licensed.

I doubt you can legally do trim without a license. Again, I think it will be more profitable for you to get legitimate. Taking classes isn't that big a deal, especially for math whiz like you. In my state, the only training we initially need has got nothing to do with building. It is almost entirely about contract law.

Get legitimate, double your wage.

Re: Kicked Out Of Framing Job For A While, Loooong While

^^^ In state of mn if I do only one of construction trades I need not licence. http://www.dli.mn.gov/ So is said to me by worker there. So I can be framer or trimmer but not both.
