Re: Is It Just Me?

my lead man earns $19 an hour. No games...He works unsupervised and gets paid what he writes down... He is honest for the most part and has been a good man for the past 10 years.... He averages $47,000 sometimes more a year (Good for Texas) and is always hurting for money.
No drugs just bad decisions....such as buying a single wide mobile home in bumb ******************** eygypt for $76,000....I said "Bob, you know I stay out of your affairs but I will suggest you reconsider this"...He fell apart and tried to justify it because he had no credit so therefore had no choice??? The guy is 46 years old and I feel like his damned dad

As far as loaning money and getting it back....I found when I did it they got mad after the first week of money comming out. After all,,, I was the rich guy with all the money? I was screwing them by giving them a job? I have yet to meet any employee that deserved help. If you don't make the first moves you can starve as far as I'm concerned!
FYI. I am not a candy assed Liberal that believes help starts with someone other than yourself!!

Great observation. Instead of them being angry about owing money to the original debtor, now they're angry about owing money to you - their employer. Great for productivity, huh?

Re: Is It Just Me?

Employers offer various benefits to offset potential sudden expenses. Such things as medical insurance, short term disability insurance, dental insurance, eye insurance, etc are offered. These are the main things that can hit you pretty hard in the pocketbook for a lot of cash unexpectedly. Clutches do not "go out" unexpectedly, they wear out over time. As such, they are (or should be) planned expenses, the same way you think to yourself, "I'll need to get gas on Monday" or "I'm due for an oil change in a few hundred miles". If a guy's house caught on fire, his fire insurance will pay for a rental house and the cost of rebuilding the home. If a tree falls on a guy's car, his car insurance will buy him a new one. I can't think of any expense that wouldn't be otherwise covered by some sort of insurance or that can be easily planned for that an employer should feel compelled to contribute towards.

A referral to a local credit counselor would be the best thing. Some of these credit counselors can arrange with their clients (your employee) to have their paycheck put directly into an account handled by the credit counselor. It is much better to give an employee financial education or counseling resources rather than loaning them money. If you loan them money, you're just dragging out the situation. Now, instead of owing money to "the car" they owe money to you.

Loaning money to employees gives them the "I owe my soul to the company store" feeling, seriously deteriorating morale. Plus, loans to employees really confuse the employer-employee relationship. I always struggle to keep that line clearly drawn.

Another great post -I totally agree. Be it professional or personal, the lack of clear and appropriate "boundaries" is a problem that can (will) destroy what might otherwise be a good relationship. Whether it's lending money, "spotting" someone fuel or motor oil, or lending tools and equipment for personal use, when the boundaries get crossed the relationship gets chipped away at. You can believe that if a company was short on cash, no one would be lining up to 'loan' their time and energy on an installment plan.

Thanks to all for the good feedback.

I know $15.00 is not alot of money, but I worked my way up to earn more. I have loaned guys money in the past, and got burned. Most people do not have the desire to make more money. They are happy where they are at. I would not do it.

Re: Is It Just Me?

We had a couple of guys (non family members) that were always asking for pay advances .... got to the point where we had to tell them no more. After we terminated one of the guys, we were getting calls from places like Advance America looking to collect on money he borrowed from them. I don't mind helping out once in awhile, but not every pay day!
