Job Descriptions In The US
Hey,
I work as a site engineer in Ireland and have been looking into coming to the US or Canada to work. My problem is i cannot find any jobs under my job title above on recruitment websites. My basic duties are setting out of construction lines or co ordinates using a total station (or EDM), checking levels and giving levels to various trades on site as well a carrying out as built surveys, quality control checks and general administration work regarding drawings and materials. so my question what is the job title suited to these responsibilities on construction sites in the United States? cheers Dave |

Dave,
To be a little more specific as I also survey, look into the following positions: Survey Party Chief Also check into this website: http://www.surveyingcareer.com/careers/employment.html Do you belong to the Irish Institution of Surveyors? Emmanuel |

heffo3,
Here you would be called a Construction Surveyor, and an Engineering Tech. That's what I do. Good business right now. Best regards, Michael |

Re: Job Descriptions In The US
Hey guys,
Was going to private message you individually but couldn't figure out how to, some engineer huh!! Being more specific about my job responsibilities. Apart from the surveying aspect of my job, I am also very involved with the design team and the trades on site. When drawings come to site they are sent to me to check for any changes and to distribute them to the relevant people on site and highlighting any new changes to them. from this point of view I am heavily involved in the details of the build and while I don't actually manage the sub contractor tradesmen, they would come to me for information and instructions on the task at hand. I deal with most trades except for mechanical and electrical and would generally have to inspect and sign off on their work as it is completed. so would that make me a Engineering technician/ construction surveyor? if so what are the job prospects/salaries like at the moment in America. We're experiencing a bit of a downturn here in Ireland and I’m wondering if it is the same over their or is it just in the residential market? Again lads, all your replies have been much appreciated cheers Dave |
