Insulation Types For New Buildings
Hi guys,
Just wondering what types of insulation you found best for new buildings. We work on a number of new and old buildings but were wondering what type of home insulation you find best in America. Obviously the construction types are slightly different so that is taken into consideration. At Sprayseal we use spray foam insulation. Any thoughts would be appreciated. sprayseal.co.uk |

blow-in cellulose is king in these parts for its sound-deadening qualities as well as its R value. I quickly discovered that perforated metal ceilings and blow-in cellulose aren't the best of friends.

It depends on the budget & the customer - I prefer Demilic Closed Cell, but sometimes you have to go with the Batt's for the walls & Blown In for the roof

Paper so-called filters aren't very good ones, and I thought the last gas mask I would ever have to wear was while still in the Army, so if it doesn't make me choke when I forget to put on a mask when going into the attic for 'just a minute', consider it gold and send it this way!

Re: Insulation Types For New Buildings
If he's got insulation that won't make me choke, then I want it in the houses that I work in. I AM dumb enough to forget jumpers on occasion, and within a few minutes of crawling through the blown in stuff in most of the attics I come across, I'd be thrilled over even a marginal improvement. By the time I'm done in some of those I'm convinced my lungs have an R30 value of their own for a few days...

Re: Insulation Types For New Buildings
I recently insulated about 2500 square feet of 2 X 6 framing with Icynene spray foam insulation. Expensive, but quick and easy and specified due to the metal siding and standing seam metal roof we used.

Re: Insulation Types For New Buildings
When applied to metal buildings closed-cell foam from a company such as E:zero E:2000's product can be a huge benefit because of its many additional benefits. Closed-cell foam works very well because it is a vapor retarded and adds a large amount of structural integrity to the building.

Re: Insulation Types For New Buildings
I honestly feel that the E:zero site is one of the more informative sites on the web because of its approach. So many of the foam sites don't really give a detailed understanding of the product the way that site does. I will try to refrain from so many plugs going forward, I just comment on it where I think it is a well suited application.
