Maybe Tscar, but why would the jerk have to "tag" the work? He could have just as easily said get a copy of the information in the next few days...red tagging a job over this issue demonstrates what kind of inspector he will be....

shoot what are you talking about 90% of the inspectors I deal with are easy going........occasionally you do get one from city to city who are overly anal like Bruce in Pleasanton or Cliff in San Ramon. They must not like you I have recieved lots of compliments from inspectors about my work, its a great thing to hear.

Re: Inspector Breaking My Balls Or What?
I have learned, as much as it pains me to do it, to "visit" with the inspector, especially when I don't know him, informally, before a job actually starts, and get his feedback on what he likes and doesn't like. Coffee shops are great meeting places before there is a problem...but then again, I have time to do this...others may not.

That's a rareity but nice to hear. as far as the others I stay out of the way, am there to remove something need be and just shut my mouth. After he's done and signing off then I'll ask questions if I have any. And most of you might think this is stupid but knowing what inspectors think is ok to do and being able to do the same task a few different ways can make you more money..... |

Re: Inspector Breaking My Balls Or What?
Reminds me of when I was getting the footing inspection for my house. I don't work in my town so I didn't know the inspector. I had a pumper and 30 yds set up for the first pour the next morning. I stopped by the end of the day to give things the once over and as I drove up the hill there was "BIG RED" stuck on my permit board. WTF??!!, first thing I had to do was call the concrete company and pumper guy to cancel. Luckily with the pumper I had given him a referral on a school job that had him on site for 3weeks ($$$$) so when I called him he just said "Hey, no problem". Then I looked up the inspectors home phone # and called him. He said his beef was why I didn't have a step footing from the elevated garage level to the bottom level footing. I then told him if he had looked at the plans he would see that the architect spec'ed to use concrete lintels to go into a pocket in the foundation wall when it was poured. "Oh, I must have missed that. Uh, I need a cut sheet on the lintel your going to use". What a jerk.
The best part was I did my foundation in ICF's. This was in '92 and nobody had used them around here. The inspector didn't know what to do so he called the state inspectors to do the foundation inspection. Now the site is a royal mud hole and when the guys show up out step these two guys in suits and shiney black patent leather shoes on They just stood by their car looked over the site and then handed me the sticker. The regular inspector was also the plumbing inspector and when he came back for the rough framing and plumbing he just gave me the stickers and said "I think you know more of whats going on here than I do"

The folks you should have gotten ripped with was Moen. They should include documentation that states that the valve conforms. For $800.00, you should not have to waste your time calling them. This is not a new standard, it has been out several years, and I'm sure this is not the first time Moen has been contacted about this. Don't bust your inspector's chops for doing his job. Bust your fixture manufacturer for not doing theirs.
