I'm so sick of beating my head against the wall

I'm doing a nice sized condo project here in Harlem, 15 units. Its been nothing but a nightmare.

I've always been a super but got hired as project manager to finish this project. I loved the fact I could pick up the phone when I was ready for the next phase and get what I need. Times do change when you step up your game and move to the next level.

Let's start with the architect, listen guys you get what you pay for. Be sure you have an architect that is willing to answer RFI's and work with you if something doesnt work. When I ran into problems putting a 36" hollow metal door in a 38" opening and asked about an RFI to the architect, they laughed me right out of the office and told me to figure it out. Same thing happened when my elevator shaft wall came 4" into a stairway in the basement.

Sub-contractors: The subs for this job were bought out before I was hired, so I got stuck with them. Since when is it common practice not to screw, nail, or crimp corner bead? Fire rated walls without fire stop? Boiler flu's not rated?

Yeah, it sounds like I'm just bitching..maybe I am. I just need to let off some steam in a place that I know someone would understand.

I was going to offer my sympathy, then I saw that you are a Yankee's fan! Sounds like you got stuck with a bad project that no one else wanted. Just stick to your guns, you'll get it done right.

Heeey Alex, Yep it's the same nightmare, but I do have it 45 days to completion. go figure. Man, if I can pull this off I can build anything. I'm about to line these sub's up against the wall and shoot them all. Wanna come over?

cough, cough...I'm actively seeking something else....shhhhh

sidenote: This is not for the subs that actually do the work properly. I dont want everyone on Contractor Talk to hate me...lol

I'm down on E 115th..this is a great block. It's kept clean and the people are amazing.

I couldnt take a building out of the ground if I tried to fake my way through it. I just dont have that experience. But then again, I've never put in an elevator before this. Building in Calif and Va are totally different from NY. I've learned alot in the past 8 months. I keep saying to myself that everything I do is a stepping stone for something better.

I got this building as a shell. It does make ya feel warm and fuzzy inside when you see the wood floors go in, the balcony rails go up, the kitchens that you picked out go in. But its a headache getting there
