I'm Outta Here

Guys,

I have been a member for about three to four years now. I have logged on less and less as times goes by. In all that time I have posted rarely because it has more and more become a site of egos with little to offer, by this I mean the moderators as a small example Nathan I leave you out because you are the only one showing how to make money. Jesus there's more politics on this place than actual recourse. I am not saying your views on illegals are racist or otherwise I don't care. I joined to improve my business not to discuss Mexicans. I don’t use illegals and my bills are paid and yes they are outside my home depot in Dorchester and it does bother me when they approach me every morning. So stop bitching call your representative and leave it of construction sites. In all these years I got one thing of any actual use from minichillio's construction in file swap (which is practically empty by the way as is the pic post because people like to talk *hit rather than contribute something practical) minichillio's construction took the time to make a job work sheet instead of stroking his ego in discussion every freaking night when do some of you price. So in signing off I say anyone who is commenting on more than fifty percent of the posts has too much time on there hands. I stayed quite and read for years but I can't take it any more. Nathan thank you it's a well designed site best of luck to you.

Seriously, I will be sorry to see you leave so bitter. I don't know who you are and how could I if you rarely contributed to the exchange of ideas that this site does offer, if you choose to use it for that purpose.

Maybe you would have gotten more out of the site in the past 3 years if you had contributed more than your previous 18 posts prior to this one.

Possibly, you also may be able to get more out of the site if you stay away from the off base topics which have nothing to do with upgrading your business sense and professional demeanor.

I agree that their is alot of political and religious BS, but their are forums set up to steer those types of discussions off of the beaten path.

Don't take this post as sarcasm or sniping at you directly, but with deeper introspect, you may find out that you can only get out of something if you put something into it as well.

I wish you luck and if you find another site that fills your needs, please share any of the knowledge you gain over there by being a contributing party rather than an observer.

That was my first reaction when I saw his total post count over several years, but I let the sarcasm be put off to the side to seriously address his comments.

That goes for anything else in life too.

You will only get out of it the amount that you put into it.

That includes knowledge, business wisdom, family, friendships, and especially the loves in your life.

Watch CNN, at 8 eastern time, tonight.
Last night was pretty good.

Calling someone a Mexican, or WB, is not racist!!! It is a nationality for god sake!! I really can't get pissed if someone calls me an American, or Yank.

You have been here 2 years, almost exactly to the day, not 3 to 4.

If a lurker leaves a forum and no one realized he was ever here, does he make a sound?

Farewell, wdwrkr75, we hardly knew ya!

I might've suggested staying out of the "Off Topic" forum if you didn't want to read posts not related to trade but alas, poor Yorick, you are nothing more than shadow now... and Ed's post is much more eloquent!

18 posts in two years and you're pissed at us?

Mac

P.S. Hey Floordude, I haven't checked the manual but I'm pretty sure calling someone a WetBack IS indeed a racist statement. I don't think there are any nations calling themselves the Republic of WB (unless WB meant something else)

I'm surprised that you didn't learn anything. Really I am. I think you're the exception. But if you don't ask questions, it not surprising that you won't get answers.

You can use the ignore feature to filter out the users that discuss things that you are not comfortable with.

If you are able to deal with the traffic at the South Bay depot you should be able to deal with some of the views on this site.

Re: I'm Outta Here

I've been on this forum for nearly 2 months now, and I've learned about as much on this forum, as what I've learned off the forum, in these 2 months.

Overall, this forum deserves a B+, which is o.k. in my book.

The only reason I don't give it an A, is due to the rude comments which some members make when someone asks a reasonable question. I guess that is part of construction worker mentality, and should be considered part of being in the field .

If you can't handle it, .....

Re: I'm Outta Here

Hello and Good Bye. Sorry to see you go.

To be honest I've learned over the years that we can't be all things to all people... I've tried doing that and it doesn't work. This site is great for some people and not for others... that's life! What I have found is people usually get out of this site what they put into it and based on the fact that you only have 19 posts in the 2 years... I can see why you don't get it.

The politics section can get heated but that's why we don't include those posts in the search results (new posts button) and you have to specifically go in that forum to find the posts. In fact we have a warning message before you enter. I wish more people who get mad at that section would just stay out. I know I do.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and come back any time. Cya.

Re: I'm Outta Here

This person is giving up a valuable tool in walking away from this forum. I find it invaluable, and look at it every day.

Let's see now....what have I learned in the 20 months I've been a member of this forum?

1] I learned that a lot of ideas and practices that I invented by myself over the years were actually pretty common, and that a lot of other contractors use them

2] I learned that I'm not the only one in the country that has occaisional problems with customers, suppliers, workers, and money

2] Misery loves company

3] I learned that I'm not the only one with a low opinion of Home Depot

4] I learned that it's not just me that has wacko customers

5] I learned that there quite a few very intelligent, hard working people out there, and actually got to meet a few at Deck Expo

6] I learned that there are quite a few contractors (a lot less than #5 above, but significant nonetheless) who really shouldn't be in this business.
In fact, there are a few people who post that make me wonder how they ever got their driver's licence, let alone be a contractor

7] I learned that almost every other deck builder has the same opinion about EON that I do.

8] I learned that there are deck contractors in SCotland, and that he's a pretty nice guy.

9] I learned some new and good business techniques from this forum

10] Finally (well, not finally, but I actually have to go work now), I learned that I should be costing for hardware for my projects, and as a direct result, I have increased my pricing by an average $300 per deck. At 100 decks this year, that's a bunch of money strictly from this forum.

I'm old, fat, almost bald, Jewish, nerdish, and wear glasses. And I have a weekend trailer. And I drive a yellow Mustang vert.
So, I'm white, Jewish, trailer trash with a flashy car. Do I take offence? Hell, no.

I think most of any perceived racisim or intolerance on this board is directed more to the fact that some of these people have bypassed the system. They are in the country illegally, they don't pay taxes, they don't have insurance, worker's compensation, licences, or whatever, and they perforce undercut those of us who do play by the rules. It's a sad fact that most of these workers tend to come from visible minorities, so racism is easy to point to or assume.
All these people are trying to do is survive, one way or another, just like us, but most of us are more circumspect about it, and do pay attention to the rules.

Re: I'm Outta Here

I believe that this gentleman joined for all of the wrong reasons to begin with. This is Contract Talk not Contractor we will improve your business. I think that it's wonderful that ideas can be shared and knowledge can be spread, but this is also a forum for people in the same industry to vent frustrations, and share view points be they good or bad. I enjoy the fact that I can increase my knowledge of the factors of argon gas in windows through the experiences of others, but I also enjoy the fact that I can vent out my anger about the homeowner that wants Weathersheild windows with custom stained glass that she picked out, but at the lowest price possible, and in a 2 week turn around because she lagged on flipping her investment property. I can tell you that no one at home wants to hear me talk about it. It's good to have an outlet and that's what he should have treated this forum as. He would have been much happier in the end.

I see, I got in trouble for replying to a question MAC wrote about my 1st post.

To stay on topic, and reply to the original post. I applaude you for not using illegal immigrant labor personally, but do your vendors, and subcontract crews?
