The one time that I have tried the customer went for it signed my form and wrote me a check, so we will see. At the very least I will be reimbursed for the time I spend drawing up plans etc plus they have made a financial commitment to my company which is a good thing.

When people are paying for the proposal, they will value it more. It will no longer get mixed in with the news paper and thrown out in the trash.

The alternative to throwing in the towell with out being forced to throw, would be hard to accept.

Forget life brothers and become the machine!

two types of businessmen (im convinced)

The first does whatever he can to get by, says "yeah, but I love what I do," .... breaks back all day ... does all he can to avoid having to work for "the man" ... and can't write a check without sweat dripping on the signature ...

the second makes money and knows it ... AND knows when he doesn't ...

and can base his decisions off that - rather than "what do i want to be when i grow up" idealism

I don't want to be the first guy

(hey Finley - how's that for a gen-Yer?? )

Re: I'm High Ballin

Buying a job means you bid it, then allow them to reduce the amount of your bid, by "giving" you the job. Pretty common and IMO, a pretty crappy way to do business. Value engineering involves fixing errors in design or selection of finishes, not beating you down on your price, FYI.

Its a line from the movie Office Space... If you have not seen it you need to. It is very funny.

Re: I'm High Ballin

I can say ... looking back at that date.... I made a very large/significant increase in prices at that time.... in hindsight, and knowing now what would happen in the months to come .... I would have been completely wiped out if I did not make those price increases

never be afraid to raise em .... sometimes, you get to a point where there's really nothing to lose ... so you might as well try for the jackpot

I am Glad you brought this post back up to the light of day....

I tell myself I quit every day, but don't pay good enough that I can afford to quit & look for another job, so I always come crawling back to myself within the hour.

hell, i even have my special towel for the occasion. I never wash it.

Funny thing, crawling back to yourself. Normal people would call the act as being a somewhat subtle sign of mental illness
