A PLEA FROM A CONSTRUCTION WORKER

I recently sent an e-mail to Kyl regarding his position. I wrote that people involved in this latest amnesty bill are traitors to the American people, the American work force, the existing laws, the legal immagrints that have came here, and should be ran out of office.

I work in construction. Illegal immigrants have taken over so bad in the Puget Sound area that General Contractors have to hire Spanish speaking foremen to run the crews. Sheet rocking, taping, texturing, siding, roofing, floor covering, framing, (carpenter rough in work), construction labors, construction labors, and even equipment operators, have all but taken over by illegal aliens. These use to be decent jobs for high school graduates, men and women, to get if the did not know what they wanted to do with their lives. Many young people would go on to construction careers because the pay wasn't that bad, even to raise families. Now thats all but gone. I am sixty five years old and still working.

Here is southern NY it is not that bad yet. I see more and more illegals every year. They should have made it so guest workers can't take our jobs. They say "well they are taking jobs american won't do" meaning picking fruit that is BULL**** they are going to take over everything...

Heck no! What kills me is that they say, as Hudson already said, they do the work we won't or don't do. How arrogant can the politicians be!! I know 98% of the people I know bust their humps day in and day out to make it! What do they mean the stuff they won't do? Then these politicians tell us these immigrants are some of the brightest students here, and they have so much to offer, that we would be mistaking sending them back. What the ? Send all the illegal aliens back!

2 things -

#1 That video of the guy who picks up the illegals in his pick up to go do some work for him and drives them straight to ICE. That's me.

#2. After these illegals get amnesty and one of them decides to run for office against one of these A-hole politicians will be the first time one of them finally gets upset about illegals taking Amercian jobs.

I wouldn't hire them either. Having said that, why do the illegals have jobs if the teens and others are so willing to work? We are shooting ourselves in the foot by not being willing to pay the teens and others and also not instilling a work ethic in the teens.
Babysitting them with TV, Playstation, and computers has brought about a generation with no imagination, and no willingness to work.
If you tell somebody to stare at a screen for 365 days a year then expect them to have the inspiration to go out and work for little pay because thats all we are willing to pay, what do we expect is going to happen? They go back to the screen and then someone else fills the slack.

Because they'll work for a lot less without overtime, they have considerably less expenses because they live with a ton of people in one house/apartment, don't have car insurance, when they need medical assistance they just go to the hospital and give a fake name. The employer pays them off the book, no overtime, doesn't have to pay unemployment health or worker comp. Insurance, the taxpayer pick up the bill.

You guys must live in a completely different world.

Where I live we have 3% unemployment, have for years. 15 years ago, before the large influx of Mexican labor, it was almost impossible to build. I was on the verge of quitting business as were many of my sub-contractors. We were unable to get help, at any price.

For one full year, every one who called asking for employment was hired. I had an ad in the yellow pages which brought in a lot of employment serchers. Every single one I hired at the rate they asked for, no questions asked, and over the phone. This was about 4 individuals per week. Gave them the jobsite address and told them to be there at 8:00 AM the next day. Out of the total (probably more than 200) that I hired over the phone, a grand total of two actually came to work. TWO. Both of them left, without saying anything, within one hour.

My experience was not unusual. All my subs had the same issues. My competitors had the same issue. There was NO ONE who wanted to work. Those who we had would show up when they wanted. We would not know how many would be at work on any given day. We could not schedule anything. Imaging trying to schedule a concrete pour and not knowing if 1 guy or 12 guys would show up.

The guys that did work (and I use the term loosely) all had attitudes. It seemed I ran the company for them. They did what they wanted and expected me to kiss their ass.

One guy, with absolutely no experience, told me he would not work as a laborer (and this was in the early '90's) unless I paid him $17 to start, plus benefits, he would not start before 8:00AM and would leave at 3:00PM, 1 hour lunch, and 8 hours pay, otherwise he would continue on welfare because it was a better deal.

The Mexicans came. They worked and continue to work. They show up on time and will work late if needed. They pick up after themselves. They are polite. They treat others with respect. They get paid $15 - $25 per hour, and they live well. They are not prima-donnas.

Yeh, I'll hire Mexicans, and yes, they do work Americans won't. Actually, the proper emphasis should be "Work? Americans won't".

I read a lot of crap on this website about tradesmen making $100,000 per annum or refusing to work. Well, $100,000 per annum puts a person in the top 10% of income earners. I personally don't think many tradesmen belong in the top 10%. We've grown and nurtured a generation or two of prima-donnas who think the world owes them something. Many on this board fit this description.

I own a small roofing company and employee two workers. One who came across as an iellegal alien, but has apppleid for citizenship since then. He currently has papers saying he is applying for citizenship and is legal until his application is done. He is currently paying taxes on his income. This man has been a loyal employee for two years. He is also married to an american woman and has a 4 year old girl who is on my son's t-ball team, which I coach. He is at every practice watching his girl and is a wonderful father. I have never agreed with illegals in the U.S. but I gave this man a chance and I can't see him leaving his family so I will do anything to help him with his citizenship. Also one of the first things he wanted me to know when hired was he wanted to pay taxes because it wasn't fair for him not too.

Both of my employees are white males, both are in their 50s. I treat em like the gold they are.

I'd go find something else to do for a living if the only way I could figure out how to do this was to ruin my country in the process.

I've only been is business for about 4 years the first two years I went through 5-6 helpers then they would not show up, be late, not want to work late. I've found someone who is responsible and I'm going to stick with them

All I'm saying is to the comments that you can't find anyone to work...

If you try you certainly can, not only are my guys not illegals they are even older guys, who should be even harder to down right impossible to find to fill these jobs that supposedly nobody wants except for illegals.

Yet, there they are, and they are great guys with great work ethics.
