I'll Be There Between 8 And 5

We're finishing a basement and pull an electrical permit over the internet. Scheduling can be done within 24 hrs. notice. Great, but narrowing down a time means anywhere between 8am and 5pm. Not really a big deal, because we're there all day anyway, but I'm just wondering if you guys have the same situation out in your parts. I know they are swamped, but don't understand why the ESA doesn't hire more inspectors?

Re: I'll Be There Between 8 And 5

I am not an electrician, but know their game from hearing my electrician complain. He files for an inspection, and some day , could be two , could be 4, days later, the inspector calls to tell him that the inspection will be sometime between the hours of ........to........., normally about a three hour window, and that he will call when heading to the job in question. The electrician usually ends uo with about an hours notice if he is lucky, and has to leave his current job, which may very well be across town somewhere to try to make the time. If he does not make it, and has an impatient ass inspector who leaves, or will not do the inspection , even though he has access to the job site, he must go in person back down to city hall, and file to request a new inspection.

Thats pathetic, I imagine that eventually reflects on pricing in your area.
Like most of the above, my inspections are same day...usually scheduled within an hours time.

How do you apply on the internet? Do you have your own electrician(s) and is he an ACP?

In Albuquerque we have a 4 hour window. County is a 2 day window. Rio Rancho (adjacent town) is a 2 day window, but 4 weeks out.

We call in by phone here and you need to call it in by 6am of the same day the inspection is needed. They'll ask you if you want am or pm and usually make that time. If you want you can leave a message with your number and ask them to call you when they're on their way. Works well if you're nearby.

Duval County, FL

phone or www day b4 by 8pm. Building Inspection scheduled next day after 7:45 am til.... can track inspector on internet.. but they don't always work off their posted inspection route.

Best to meet the inspector on site... you can save an otherwise failed inspection 9 out of 10 times. ( re-inspection fee $35.00 and lost time on the project).

The ESA is a joke to begin with. On the last 2 permits we pulled the inspector never showed up.
