Ice Guards For Metal Roof

Hi! I'm looking for recommendations for ice guards for metal roof.
4/12 pitch in Kentucky. Usually only a couple inches of snow or 1/2" of ice, but have had 20" of snow. Metal or polycarbinate? Spacing?
Method of fastening? Snow splitters for metal chimneys?
Thanx,
Jeff

Re: Ice Guards For Metal Roof

There are numerous products on the market now. Some have brackets which connect to the standing seams to hold a bar that runs the length of the eave. Some simply get glued to the panels using an adhesive based silicone, like "Everseal". The cost varies and the copeasthetics isn't so great. But what I can tell you is that you want to stagger the placement about 10" to 12" up from the bottom. Do a web search for "Metal Archtecture" magazine. I always see them advertised in it but I don't have a copy handy to give you more specifics.

What type of metal roof? Hidden or exposed fastener?

If possible, I'd avoid the stick on type, but that option may disappear if it's an exposed fastener roof. You need a material that's compatible with the roof material. I'm assuming painted steel, but you could be dealing with aluminum or copper.
