I Want To Show You Something

This is something that I have been interested in for many, many years. What I show you, many of you will not believe your eyes. I have a hard time believing it myself, but it is very true. This is not my handy work, but the work of a talented person from a far away country.

The picture of the family room you see here is 100% from a modeling program. There is no reality in the picture. The program is called 3dsMAX and it is from the same company as AutoCAD.

http://www.vismasters.com/GalleryIma...ept28_2009.jpg

Now the reason I show you is because this is used in the field of construction every day, but mostly for high end architects with high end clients. For almost everyone here on CT, this would not help in the least bit. It's for ooh's and aah's and that's all. Maybe 1% here could remotely use some service like this.

There will be many here that will say "geez Kent (that's me BTW) that is a little out of my ballpark and who could I actually use it for."

I don't know. You do whatever you wish with the information. I can tell you for sure that the person who did this rendering is a freelancer, as are most of these talented 3d visual artists. Many are from Russia, Dubai, Spain, South America, India....not many I see from the US or Canada. And they are, in our point of view.....cheap. Some do it for free to get their name out there.

I'm talking like $300 cheap. Could you recoup the money on the job? I don't know, maybe, maybe not. Depends on how you look at your business. I see a client being shocked by the incredible detail and telling their friends. I see a HO on the fence, trying to decide between two GC's.... until they get an email that has this attached. I see a relatively inexpensive way to spruce up your website. To me, it's worth it.

To give you an idea, some of these guys would be able to do this (depending on lots of circumstances) in a week or two. You may not have that kind of time, so it may not be for you if time is critical. If you have a high end client who is patient, who is looking for top of the line professionalism, who is looking for the best, I'd say this is at least some ammo for you. Every little bit counts in business.

By far, the best collection of these people are on this site called Vismasters. There are others, but some of the things people can make with their program is just phenomenal. Take a look at the gallery section and you will see what I mean.

If for nothing more than a half hours entertainment, it may be worth it. If it helps one person here get some gears turning in their heads, some lightbulbs turning on, I made my point and I'm glad I could help.

I know of one builder that uses this type of program to sell custom builds...i can see it would be a great benefit for those who simply cannot "visualize" a plan.

There you go...opportunity knocks. Since you are fluent, and in the trade, you would have an advantage over foreigners.

Pointing out to you the opportunity. It would appear your original response was not really productive. I can't imagie why you would have a problem with it.

Re: I Want To Show You Something

I first saw modeling at that level when I was cruising the Sketchup Community Forum, and in their gallery section, someone brought in a link to a guy in Russia that was doing wonderful work. Using 3D Max, he was doing photorealistic rendering of interior and exterior models, and what impressed me the most, was his ability to get the "antiquing" so right-on, the scuffs, the dirt, the rub-throughs, and more. The level of detail in his millwork and furniture was just fantastic.
