I Spent $800 On This Website. Feedback Please?!?

I am a small business owner and recently I had a local company here build my website for $800. I wanted to see if this was a good site and also if you had any feedback for me.

I dont know if I overpaid. Thanks for your time.

Ditto.

I'd suggest that you have a professional secretary give it a good proofreading. I noticed a few grammatical and punctuation errors.

Other than that...

I'm just starting to research having one made so I don't know a lot about them. But I liked what I saw. Might use some of the layout ideas for my own. That is, if you don't mind.

Free carpet cleaning.

How?
Unless you are actually burying the cost in the total price.
Not free.

Also remove the word "Behr".

Otherwise it looks good.

Get rid of that ugly picture of a pre-made outside crown corner, did they find that picture from Home Depot's product catalouge. They carry those stupid things.

It looks good. Maintenance costs should be around 100 bucks for the year for a static site with very few changes (although I don't know for sure as I have never priced them, but that's what I would charge.)

If you had more that half a dozen changes, I'd have some sort of hourly rate applied.

Ask the designer to install Wordpress if you'd like to keep it up to date yourself. Once Wordpress is setup and configured to look the way you like, it is easier to use than this forum tool is. Then you can handle 99% of the updates yourself. An additional 500 to do that would be reasonable.

Make sure the hosting service doesn't forget to renew your domain name in October.

Re: I Spent $800 On This Website. Feedback Please?!?

It looks great.

There were a couple of issues that you may want to check out. It is in regards to the content, not the images.

You should investigate Calpainting. They are using your painters. Compare it with your about us page.

Check out New Image Painting. It appears they falsified a testimonial by copying some of the text from one of your customers' testimonials.

Both Rosso Painting and Natural Handman copied (verbatim) some of your content on elastomeric paints.

Also, it appears that Home Depot took some of your content also. Though I think they may be a little too big to confront directly.

I stopped reviewing it after I saw the above. I hate it when a young business gets taken advantage of. Take screen captures of the offending pages and you should be successful at getting their ISPs to remove them.

Good luck in everything.

HAHAHA I guess you get what you pay for.

Oh you wanted original content for $800? I guess you should have asked.

Re: I Spent $800 On This Website. Feedback Please?!?

Stealing web site content and code is a violation of copyright laws and ICANN (people who regulate domain names)

How a web site looks is garbage. Think of it as anyone can paint a room, but how well did they paint it. What matters is:
  1. How well does it get someone to call you and e-mail you?
  2. How well does it rank in search engines.
  3. Whats your Bounce Rate, Conversion Rate, etc.
These questions determine value in a web site. Web Sites are not display ads. They are Lead Capture & Generating Machines! Unlike an and you run over and over, Web Sites need to grow or they disappear. Sure you can advertise your web site as a information source for customers, but you want it to be generating leads.

Any company that builds a web site with missing meta tags and copied content has ripped off their client unless you were told to add that info yourself and YOU failed to add the meta tags and YOU ripped off the content.

Now once you correct everything and get original well written content (there are paid content writer you can hire on line) you will want to add Google Analytics and begin keeping track of your stats. Think of a web site as a store front. You want to know:
  • How many People are driving by (first page views)
  • How many are stopping in (bounce rate)
  • How many sales is this location generating (leads)
To do this go setup an account at http://www.google.com/analytics/

Also remember that Google, Yahoo, Ask and all the other search engines DO PUNISH web sites for breaking SEO Laws! So you may want to spend some money to have an SEO guy give your site a once over. Do this every 3-6 months.

Good Luck with it and remember...Your a Painter...Not a Web Site Guru. Do what you do best and pay someone else to do the other stuff. Just check references and make sure they are performing to the level you expect.

I think you may be over whelming potentional customers with too much information. It reads like a manufacturers web page. A lot of that info could be condenced in a FAQ section of the site.

Remember people are simple. You are hitting them with too much at one time. The "exterior process" page is a prime example. I just think that all that information may deture the average home owner from calling you because they view all of that as extra and presume your prices will be high.

Good work here. But how the hell did you just run across all those sites? They all made by the same company?

I think this is the total of all SEO on the site.
<meta name="keywords" content="rayco painting, paint, exterior painting, interior painting, painting, san jose, california, bay area, residential home painting, commercial painting, southbay, san francisco, sanjose, san jose">
